Jon Cole Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I want to make some velocity stacks, and I need to know how to make the tops flair out just a bit. Can anyone help me on this? I don't have enough time to order some from the aftermarket. Thanks. Spyder
Brendan Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Get a hammer and get a tapered nail punch. Put the aluminum tubing over the nail punch and lightly tap with the hammer and it will flare out the edge. Simple way to make velocity stacks. I just made an inlet restrictor for a Porsche I'm working on because I lost the pewter part. Hope this helps.
old-hermit Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I use a pair of sharp needle nose pliers or hemostats. Stick them in the end and twist the tubing. It will create a small flair. Then sand with an emory board.
Blue coyote Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 You might also achieve decent results using a tube flaring tool, such as the cheap ones you can get for flaring brake lines. Only takes a few seconds, and easy to get it right once you get the first one to the shape you want... Right tool for the right job and all
Tommy Kortman Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Spyder, I have used the ball end of a dry transfer burnishing tool. Through some trial & error, I got it to work pretty good. I would recomend heating the aluminum first. It will make the tube easier to form and less likely to split.

Jon Cole Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 Thanks folks. I appreciate all the replies, and they were helpful. I used a center punch tapped with a small hammer, after first using an X-Acto knife to shave out the inside lip of the aluminum tube. It worked perfectly. Spyder
