Finks Garage Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 I started on this at the end of October. I had just released my new Jackman rims and was looking for something to use them on. Charles at Texas 3D Customs released his transkit for the Revell bug to make it a Baja and I had also already downloaded the Black Box VW engine files and had several printed and waiting to go into my next project. So those items are the inspiration for this project! 1
Finks Garage Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 Changing the base model to the Tamiya kit had a few fitment issues but nothing that can't be overcome. I spent maybe an hour or so cutting, sanding test fitting before I glued everything in place. 2
Finks Garage Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 I was able to prep the body for primer and find a nice set of truck pulling tires on Cults that I scaled down to fit my rims and to look proper for a sand baja bug. I think in all I applied 3 coats of primer to the body, sanding between each to get rid of the very faint lines from the 3d printer. These photos also show a mockup of how I was hoping the ride height would look like when finished. 2
Finks Garage Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 Next was the interior. Scratch building the roll cage, deleting the rear seat and using photo etch door panels. 1
Finks Garage Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 Final sand on the body, assembling some of the sub-assemblies - engine, front beam, rear brakes and swing arms, painting the tires and wheels. Also sourced a set of seats from the parts bin.
Finks Garage Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 Everything painted and awaiting the assembly. 2
Finks Garage Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 Assembly started and ride height worked out and is sitting just as I had planned!

Mike C. Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Nice job on the Bug so far Larry. I checked your site, but I couldn't find the front Jackman wheels or the engine with that exhaust. How can we purchase these? 3
Craig Irwin Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Looks GREAT ! Do you still cast the dual port engine? 1
Calb56 Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Very cool Baja. Great details all the way around. 1
