Captain Obvious Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) Hiya kids, just started a new project this afternoon... Revell California Wheels '69 Corvette Coupe...the kit: The wheels: The color scheme: The wheels will be more of a gunmetal color, rather than the bronze color that they're molded in. Pics as it progresses, so stay tuned! Edited February 16, 2009 by Captain Obvious
Captain Obvious Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 A little progress... The kit 427, air cleaner not installed, and needs touchups: Chassis painted in Testors Deja Blue lacquer, this is the color that the body will be as well...actual color is darker and less purple than the pic portrays. Tank was masked and sprayed with Tamiya Silver Leaf: Interior color, I forgot what it is...lol...Krylon or something-or-other satin red: Progress will be slow on this one...I usually only have time to build on weekends. I was gonna lay down the pearl white for the center stripe on the body, but it's too darn windy today! Also...does anyone have any recommendations on how to non-permanently attach the air cleaner? The molded-in detail of the carbs is pretty decent and I don't want to hide that...
Rich Cummings Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Probably the easiest way to make the air cleaner removable will be to drill a hole in the center carburetor and insert a small length of wire. Then drill a hole in the air cleaner and trim the wire so that it sticks just above the top of the air cleaner. Now you just have to slide the air cleaner on and off the wire to show the carb. If your air cleaner has two wing nuts on it, then line the wing nuts up with which ever carb and put the pin in that carb.
ismaelg Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Looks great so far! One of my favorite cars in one of my favorite color schemes! I did a C5 in that color scheme, Rob Wheeler did a C6 and Bob Downie did a Tahoe as well. One comment thou: That is not the gas tank. That is the spare tire carrier. The gas tank is on top of that and barely visible. Thanks,
Jantrix Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 This looks like a great project. Keep us posted.
Captain Obvious Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 One comment thou: That is not the gas tank. That is the spare tire carrier. The gas tank is on top of that and barely visible. I did not know that...well, you learn something new every day! Eh...I'm leaving it silver, cuz I like the way it looks!
Captain Obvious Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 Couple new pics: Body is painted and color is wetsanded...needs touchups to where paint was sanded off edges/bled through the mask/etc, then a light polish, then clear, then wetsand (if needed) and polish again. The white stripe is Tamiya Pearl White, although it does not show in the pic: Wheels are coated with Testors Graphite Dust lacquer, although it looks like they could use another coat: Hope to get front and rear suspension installed tonight, we'll see...and yes, I know the passenger-side A-pillar is broken.
ismaelg Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Looking good so far! I'm loving it. Fixing the pillar should not be a big deal. Thanks,
Captain Obvious Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 A little more progress... Body polished a little and some paint touchups done...red stripes applied using scrap red decals. No clear yet. Suspension mostly installed. Scratchbuilt front springs, using pieces of chrome sprue and red craft wire. Paint looks blotchier in pictures than it does in person...
robertw Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 That is going to be a sweet build. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished. RobW
billywilly92 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Looks good so far. The custom springs are really cool.
