Engine in Revell Golf GTI MK2

I’ve noticed that the engine in this kit does not have the GTI configuration. I presume that is because, according to Scalemates, the Kamei and Zender versions came before the GTI, so they never bothered tooling new GTI specific parts? Does anyone know what engine is really in the GTI kit? Is it even a gasoline powered engine, or a diesel? I’ll probably just do a VR6 transplant anyway, but I’d like to know if possible. Thanks!

I think it’s the non-16V version of Mk 2.

Looks to be just the normal 8V engine found in the Mk2 Golf/Jetta/GTI.
