After building the mid '70's Hayes Clipper COE, I thought I'd jump from old school to modern-day aero..

The rough side skirt consists of several pieces of plastic stock. Plenty of sanding and contouring will be needed.

First primer/sealer. So far, so good.

What will my 386 be? Here's an inspiration...

Saturday 2/14/09 Update:

I discovered Tower Paint from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. They custom packed the Dupont color Viper Green into a spray can for me.

I'm quite impressed at the ease the paint goes on.

Stay tuned!

That's a great start. When the Kenworth T600s first came out, I heard a lot of complaining about how the road grime was funneled right up to the windshield. Is this just talk from people who couldn't stand change, or was there anything to it. If there was a problem, how did they address it?

I have idea about the T600 issue. Aerodynamics can play havoc with road spray. A Peterbilt 379's windshield will get more road spray without a visor than with one.

Nice looking build. Where did you find the pics of the green Walmart Pete's. Around here all I see are White Internationals We have a big warehouse about 60 miles from me and I have yet to see one.

Having spent about 1/2 my career in T600s, I can tell you from experiance it's true. Same with the T2000 I drove for a short time. The windsheild required much more attention as far as keeping it clean. The DAYLITE door, which have the bigger side windows found on later KWs, also collected more dirt in the area of additional glass in the rain/snow.

As to Tim's comment about a 379 with vs without a visor, it does make a difference. The center brackets separate from the cab over time, so I removed it on my old Pete until I could get a new visor.

I did notice more crud on my glass in that short time. I never thought it would make a difference, but it did.

As to the 386, very cool. Nice start you have there so far Tim.

I wonder if those are in western states. Some of the Wal Mart store buildings in the western states are colored differently than the usual blue and white. Some are green and white, and some are tan and dark red. Not sure why though. Living 1/2 hour from their corporate offices myself, I've seen the 386's but they're the usual white and blue. I see they're buying T660s also. That's a nice look though with the green.

What's goin' on...

Tim

You definitly know how to make these newer Petes out of outdated kits. I too live near a Wal-Mart distribution center in Grove City,Ohio less than a half mile away from my front door. Also the company I work for sends me there on service calls doing repairs on common carrier trailers. I have yet to see a green Wal-Mart truck. You are doing a hell of a job.

By the way. Great job on the Brockway in the MCM Truckers Corner!!!

Tim...Looking great as always...

Are you going to do the "Walmart" door logo's??

You quoted in an earlier thread:

This is an amazing find...having custom automotive paint put into a rattle can...I'll take that anyday. The cost savings over the airbrush...and consistency

Thank you

Thanks!

I'm having the graphics made as I type. It might be some time before they reach me.. so this project might be on the back burner for a while. (as many are..)

UPDATE March 6

I haven't posted any progress on my Aero 386 Hybrid as I had to strip the paint and start over as I had a clearcoat failure.

Here are the latest updates.

Tim, this is looking really nice. One question on the paint from Tower Paints. Is this a laquer or enamel paint? This is color is close to a color I'm looking for on a future paintjob.

Tim,

The changes you made on the Italeri hubs "makes" a big difference.

Colors look great as well. Looking forward to seeing it done.
