JJ Deuce Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 this is one of my favorite kits. I’m going to build a replica of a car I owned several years ago, but there are a couple of flaws I want to correct. So I’m building this one as practice before I start the replica. I had an L-88 hood in my stash from the ‘68 kit, and the kit already has the intake, carb and air cleaner for this option. i recently purchased the Tamiya panel scriber and tried it out. So far I like it better than using the back of a #11 blade. I still need to make a few more passes on the doors, t-tops, headlight doors and wiper panel but it’s looking good. 8
Shark Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 The Revell 68 & 69 Corvettes are really good kits. You have to watch some of the chinese produced kits as they put the wrong dash and door panels in them. The finished model out of the box sits a little high in the front, so I relocate the mounting pins a little higher and use a smaller tire. Good luck with your build, I will certainly watch this and get some pointers from you. 1

This one has the correct '69 door panels and dash, but all of them have the '68 console with the seat belt buckle indent. The biggest thing I want to correct is the rear window. I'm not sure why it's curved in these kits, as AMT was able to mold the correct flat opening, but I'll address it.
JJ Deuce Posted May 3, 2023 Author Posted May 3, 2023 Moving slow as usual but I did manage to strip some of the chrome bits. 2
JJ Deuce Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 This is a great kit overall but a couple of things that have bothered me are the fender gills and the shape of the rear window. All four vents in the front fender are molded open, but on the real car the rearmost vent is closed, and painted black. I added a thin piece of styrene to close it off. I’m working out how to correct the shape of the rear window. It should be flat between the rear buttresses but it’s molded with curves on both sides. The red AMT promo is closer but still seems inaccurate. 2
JJ Deuce Posted November 4, 2023 Author Posted November 4, 2023 Back on this one for a bit. I roughed in the shape of the window opening with sheet styrene, and a little putty. I need to add some putty and smooth it out.
TransAmMike Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Great start JJ. Love 68-73 Vette's. Owned a '73 Coupe and '71 454 Convertible. Gone but not forgotten? 1
