V8tiger Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I'd like to hear your thoughts about what size 3D resin printer I should purchase... I keep going back and forth in my mind.. I want to make the right decision before I commit... I really like the Elegoo Mars 3 Pro but keep thinking I won't be able to print bodies.... my first question is.. is it possible to print bodies in two parts? and does that even make sense?? Buying a printer with a larger bed is the simple answer but I'm not sure if I wanna spend the money... and would I be happy with the smaller print bed being able to print everything but bodies... also is it that important since I can always buy any of the great resin bodies that are on the market.... Kinda driving myself a little nutting trying to decide.... you alls thoughts??? and thanks in advance and sorry for being a pain in the *utt..

Yes, bodies can be printed in more than one part and then put together. My advice to you is to get the printer with the largest screen you can afford, but make sure it is a mono screen. I found out quickly that a small screen can be frustrating. Having to make multiple runs because you can't fit everything on the plate at once can be a big pain. There are a few people here, myself included, that bought a small printer only to turn around and buy a bigger printer just a few months later.

I have a smaller printer but I print exclusively parts, but I'm the minority. Most folks like to print bodies and tho I've printed one in two parts and put it together, I wouldn't want to make it a habit. If you want to do bodies, save a bit more and get the larger bed. If you want to print parts with the occasional body, you can get the smaller printer and have the body printed by Cloudcraft or someone else. I did that for one body and I'm good with that. Enjoy the ride!

I've printed out a skoda ambulance with a join running the full length of the body. the 2 joining faces are close to lining up but there will be a lot to fill after getting the faces lined up and the grille being split down the centre is going to be a chore to get right. if you can I would suggest get the biggest printer you can if you will be doing bodies, if its just the odd one now and again a smaller one will suffice but for bodies bigger is easier to work with. I have the anycubic photon mono x for my smaller printer and i dont think I would want anything smaller than it. It can do bodies in 1 part which i like but its small enough that i can use t for smaller items and the bigger one for bodies. 1
