Custom Hearse Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 (edited) This is a build that I was asking for opinions about in the General Topics section on this forum. I decided to start on it after getting some ideas from several people here. It's a Jo-Han 1934 Mercedes-Benz 500K kit GC-234. Here's some pictures of part of the kit and pieces that I will be using.... This is the kit box.... The body with the fenders. The number one suggestion was to build it without the fenders. I like that idea, so the fenders will be gone.... The body and the hood are nice pieces. They had some flash, and some mold lines that had to be gotten rid of, but they weren't too bad.... The hood has these exhaust holes in it, so I've decided to cut the sides of the hood off.... I'll have to do a lot of cutting to get the interior floor pan out, and get rid of the fenders, but I also want to keep the front edges of the inside fenders so I can mount the radiator grill.... And the back of the frame will have to be cut off to mount pro street tubs and frame to the stock frame.... Here's the frame from the Revell '67 Chevy pro street kit, ready to be chopped off.... On the next post, I'll show everyone what I've done so far. Edited July 22, 2009 by Custom Hearse
Custom Hearse Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Here's the work I've done so far on this build. I started by cutting the interior and pro street tubs apart, and putting them together.... This is the underside of them put together.... I measured them and then put them together, and I also reshaped the pro street tubs to the body. This should keep the wheels inside, but leave a little tire sticking out.... I then cut the frame to fit onto the new interior floor pan, and the pro street framework.... This is where I'm at so far with it.... If anyone has any ides they want to share that I can add to this, feel free to add them! Thanks for looking!
plasticbutcher Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Lookin good so far, I think a 302 from the Revell 32 ford would look good out front (got one if you need it) with some skinny wires wheels from a "t bucket" up front but than I'm the goof who puts slant 6's in ford trucks HA HA HA Keep up the good work my friend By the way-- any of those Mercedes parts you want to get rid of ?????????
Custom Hearse Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Thanks Rick. Any parts that I have left I'll give to you. That should brighten your day! Say hello to your wife for me, and let her know I plan to keep my date with her on Saturday the 7th. Tell her to wear something sexy!
CB Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 This is one very cool looking project! Looking forward to seeing it with wheels & tires. I'm thinking the bottom of the front fenders would cover the frame? and provide you with the rad mounting, and look pretty cool painted the body color as well? Once again, very cool.........

Smart-Resins Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 It most certainly will be different for sure! Jody
Trans Am Erik Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I love it, a high dollar hot rod! What are you planning for an engine? You can fit a LOT of motor under that hood. How about something crazy like a V-12 with a PAIR of six pack intakes and a set of wicked baloney cut six ended lake pipes?
Custom Hearse Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 It most certainly will be different for sure! Jody The idea is not mine. I saw a model of a '32 Chrysler (I think) with a V-12 Viper engine (that I do remember) in one of the model magazines, and I thought that would be something I'd like to do. When my friend gave this kit to me, I thought COOL!, time to do one. I love it, a high dollar hot rod! What are you planning for an engine? You can fit a LOT of motor under that hood. How about something crazy like a V-12 with a PAIR of six pack intakes and a set of wicked baloney cut six ended lake pipes? Thanks Erik! I've got an AMT Allison V-12 that I've thought about using in this build. Or I could build a supercharged Hemi V-12 using 2 Revell engines (done it before, but not without some difficulty). It's also been suggested by Jody to use a supercharged Lincoln V-12 flathead engine. If I could get my hands on one, I'd definitely do that!
plumnuts Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 are you going to wrap any fender around that rear wheel?
Custom Hearse Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 are you going to wrap any fender around that rear wheel? Uhhhh.... Nope nope nope ahhhh nope.... Well maybe.... Not sure yet. I've thought about that, and maybe some cycle fenders on the front. Whatta ya think?
Custom Hearse Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Here's the rear axle painted up, with wheels and tires.... Not quite finished, waiting for the paint to dry so I can touch up whats left.... With wheels and tires.... Mocked up....
Custom Hearse Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 Update. I've added new wheels to the car, from the Revell '57 pro sportsman kit. I also glued the windshield frame to the body. I may go ahead and keep it a convertible instead of scratch building a hardtop. It doesn't look half bad with the uptop on it. Not much else done to it right now. Just trying different frames to see which one would be good to use as a modern style.
Custom Hearse Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 I'll have an update soon for this one. My hours at work went from 20 hours, to 44, so I've had little time to work on this.

I'm doing as much as I can with it, but work has kept me busy. I'll add an update soon. OMG! You butchered a '34 Merc 500 with Pro-stock rubber!!! Call the Plastic Police!! .. oh, wait.. THAT LOOKS GOOD!!!! Seriously, it IS looking great .. as much as I love flowing fenders. A V12 sounds perfect Yes Foxer! I butchered it! HAHAHAHA! And I'll do it again! Thanks for the laugh! I'll have to fix the firewall to fit the Allison engine in, and stretch the frame a bit. Hopefully it won't be too much trouble.

Custom Hearse Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Thanks Cap'n. I'm gonna do some work on it tonight. I've got 2 frames from the Revell '41 Willy's I'm gonna chop up and stretch, so I can fit the Allison engine into it.
Custom Hearse Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Update.... I stretched the frame on the Me-Rodder so that I can fit the Allison V-12 into it. here's a couple of pics.... I cut 2 frames apart to stretch it It now extends out where I wanted it More updates soon.
Custom Hearse Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 And another update. I test fit the Mercedes grill to the body and frame, and found that It sat too high. I cut off about an eighth of an inch off the grill, and fit it into the frame. Here's a couple of pics of it.... I've started on building the front suspension on this, and will have an update soon.
