Terry Sumner Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I went with my son to one of his fellow volunteer fireman's houses today to look at a 97 Harley he wants to purchase. So it was okay and all...I like bikes but I'm not nuts about them. As we approach the small garage in his back yard where he has 2 harleys stored, my eyes caught sight of a section of the yard way in the back with some cars parked there on a slab of asphalt. So after we're done looking at the bikes I ask if we can look at the cars. Sure he says. So get THIS..parked there was a number of muscle cars all being saved from when this guy's father was a younger gearhead..all being saved for restorations for each of his sons one day, of which my son's friend is one of those lucky sons! In this group was a 1973 Corvette Coupe L-82, a 1979 Trans-Am, a 1979 Camaro Berlinetta, a 1968 Dodge Charger with the original factory 440 and finally, the car that gave me the mini heart attack, an all original 1966 Chevelle SS396 with it's factory installed engine, trans and rear!!! All cars are four speeds. The Chevelle and the Charger had Hurst Competition plus shifters and all were in pretty good condition. They all need body-off restos, but they are all original! My Gawd I was in heaven! And no...dammit..none of them are 4 sale! They're still out there! Terry
LDO Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 20 years ago in Houston, there was a guy in a run-down neighborhood who had 2 Plymouth Superbirds in his back yard. Man I love that car.
Jantrix Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 If you ever really want to set down for a good cry.......................www.carsinbarns.com And bring a hankie
george 53 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Such a shame. Good bet by the time those cars get to be worked on,they'll just be rusted hulks. Parts'll be so hard to find an expensive, that they'll just be towed away an scrapped. I HATE hoarders. They just let stuff rust away rather than let it go to be restored. How much longer ya think that Chevelle can last without proper storage?
Ken Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 At least he had them on asphault and not just sitting in the grass.
Terry Sumner Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 At least he had them on asphault and not just sitting in the grass. Yes...that's a big plus. At least the frames aren't on soggy turf.
