MarkJ Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 In the latest issue of MCM, the contest issue, which I must say is awesome. There is pictured 3 Kiekhauffer Chryslers. The caption says that the 57 Chrysler pictured is a phantom because the team switched to Desotos in 1957. This is incorrect. The team was disbanded at the end of 1956 and ran nothing in 1957. Karl Kiekauffer was tired of Nascars rules and quit racing. That is why it is a phantom.
Harry P. Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 There are hundreds of captions in the contest issue... double-checking each and every one for accuracy would be impossible, given the time constraints of putting out a magazine. Just an honest mistake. But thanks for the clarification.

Actually, Karl Kiekhafer had a '57 Chrysler 300C built for going Nascar racing, but disbanded his team before the season started. Art
