tabsscale1 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 So when did the other rag start charging for putting coming events in their Mag? Always thought this was a free service
Harry P. Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Did you ever think that maybe you're reading the wrong magazine?
tabsscale1 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 Did you ever think that maybe you're reading the wrong magazine? I already knew that but we put our clubs contest in both mags and have never been charged before . Got a bill from scale auto for putting it in.
LDO Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Kalmbach just can't get it right. SA and FSM are dinosaurs. Pick up a British hobby magazine. Tons of industry news, new releases, reviews, how-tos, etc. Kalmbach seems to be stuck in the pre-internet days, when a little bit of information was all people needed. I haven't bought either of them in ages. I thumb through them at the LHS, but they just don't have much to offer. If only Model Cars could lure away Mark Gustavson...

You gotta be kidding! I can see asking advertisers to pay, but not clubs! I will bet you don't ask them to promote your contest with them next year. In the 1:1 truck magazines I produce, not only do I not ask clubs to pay, I give the listing away to go in the mag and on website, I give them ad space, I even ask them to send us photos/text after the event that we print. I see clubs as the most enthusiastic members of the hobby and you don't want to "bite the hand that feeds you". Either they don't know that, or are hurting for money. John

Different mags find different ways to gain revenue in these tough times. SA charges club listings now, MCM raised their cover price. Different ways to the same end I guess.
