Monty Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 1) Indulge me: All I want is an answer to this question. Please spare me the "Why don't you try..." stuff. 2) I'd prefer to hear from those who've actually tried this. Speculation doesn't accomplish anything. If I sprayed a model car body with Tamiya White Fine Surface Primer, what kind of result could I expect if I followed that with their TS-65 Pearl Clear?
Rich Chernosky Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Monty..you will get a pearl white finish. Fine surface primer is quite white so it will be fairly brilliant. If you want a higher shine you will need to clear coat it with TS-13. The pearl additive in TS-65 gives the clear a very slight texture which kills the hi shine. As a general rule I don't use the primer under Tamiya on plastic bodies. Adhesion is not the problem for Tamiya. The higher shine and smoother the base makes Tamiya gloss up quicker. I have achieved better pearl whites with the pearl additive in the white gloss. Fine surface primer is one of the best but it still has a very slight texture which will kill any high gloss and requires more coats of clear. I have sprayed a LOT of Tamiya. Hope this answers your question in the manner you requested.
Monty Posted October 3, 2023 Author Posted October 3, 2023 Thanks for your response. That's the kind of info I was hoping to get.
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 You can wet sand the Tamiya primer and get a smooth semi gloss white as your base.
