ncbuckeye67 Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Has anyone tried using those jars of pigment (used for nails & soap making) to color white embossing powder? In the past, I have painted over it, and it has clumped & ran together. My best guess is that the paint rewetted the Elmer's glue. I did find some colored embossing powder at Hobby Lobby yesterday, but it was mostly Christmas colors with glitter in it. I did get a jar of red, black and gold though.
StevenGuthmiller Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 You can buy almost any color of embossing powder that you can think of. If you happen to need a color that you can't find, you can try mixing colors. You're not going to get orange if you mix yellow and red, but you can "alter" the hue by mixing some colors, like green and blue to get turquoise. I got all of these colors from 2 different sets from "Hampton Art". One set of solid colors, and one of metallic colors. The sets didn't include a turquoise, but I was able to do a fairly good job by mixing green and blue for this '65 Fury. Steve 6
ncbuckeye67 Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 That looks great! What do you use for adhesive?

I just use slightly thinned white glue, (Elmer's) but there are any number of acceptable solutions. You can also paint the embossing powder once applied with very good results. Just apply as you normally would and then let it dry completely. A couple of thin coats of a flat paint over it does a fine job. For my '64 Bonneville, I sprayed some custom mixed flat enamel over the powder. Worked very well. Steve 3
ncbuckeye67 Posted October 30, 2023 Author Posted October 30, 2023 Thanks for the tip. I will try that next time. One time recently, I painted over embossing powder and it clumped together, like the paint re-wetted the Elmer's glue. It looked horrible.

How do you apply the powder into the glue? just sprinkle it on, or use some sort of sifter? I have used various fine screens to sift the flocking in the past, but I'm about to try the embossing powder and I want it to come out nicely. Edit: please disregard - I searched a little and found your posts about application in another thread. ? Edited December 2, 2023 by JJ Deuce searched some more
