Duddly01 Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Tamiya clear red works well in this case, with the chrome backing it, but I would be tempted to drill them out and tint clear UV resin and make the lenses.
CA Whitecloud Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 I've never used UV resin. What does that entail? One would need a UV light I presume.
KWT Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Stop light red, clear red, red sharpie or something along those lines
CA Whitecloud Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 What about 5 min. epoxy in place of resin?
Duddly01 Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Uv resin does need a uv light to cure, yes. The simplest thing that gets good results for me has been Tamiya clear red over chrome. But that is only when I don’t plan on adding LEDs.
CA Whitecloud Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 Thanks. I am no where near able to light my builds Maybe someday.
CA Whitecloud Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 Another query. Install windshield before or after BMF on the frame? And how do you handle the inside of the window frame?
CA Whitecloud Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 And for all the detail sticklers...buckle on the inside or on the door side?

Just about the same time you were typing your compliment I was *&%^&ing it up. I taped off the the top while painting the bay and got very sloppy. Not to mention tape residue. HELP!

I usually carefully wet sand the tape spot down and re-polish it. The car is looking great!
CA Whitecloud Posted January 24, 2024 Author Posted January 24, 2024 Stipped the gas cap and used a chrome pen. I wish the kit had horse decals for the gas cap and glove box. Ooh, scratch built/bent battery brace.
CA Whitecloud Posted January 24, 2024 Author Posted January 24, 2024 Whatever you do...don't mess up on the clear parts.
CA Whitecloud Posted January 24, 2024 Author Posted January 24, 2024 I first started with BMF which I've had success with in the past. But my foil was really old and would not stick and my knife would not cut an even line. I managed to get some on and then went over it with a chrome pen. It actually looked passable to me. I gave it a light coat of Future and said goodnight. The windshield and wing windows is one piece. It did not fit snug in the frame at all. So, of course, while trying to hold it firmly in place I managed to get glue all over the part. Also major blemishes on the frame. BooHoo.
CA Whitecloud Posted January 24, 2024 Author Posted January 24, 2024 Seat belts came out ok for a first timer.

CA Whitecloud Posted February 3, 2024 Author Posted February 3, 2024 I managed to fog up my headlights. I got carried away with the liquid chrome. It was looking good on the back piece. I dropped on the lense not to smush it down. Still good. Then a bonehead move. I tapped a little CA on the edges and it immediately seeped into the seam.
CA Whitecloud Posted February 3, 2024 Author Posted February 3, 2024 And insult to injury, I dropped them in the frame off kilter and could not get them to spin. It will always bug me. I'm not all the happy with the grille. I tried several combinations of panel liner and thinned paint but could not achieve an even tint. It just looks dirty.
CA Whitecloud Posted February 3, 2024 Author Posted February 3, 2024 OH! I really want to find some PE - F O R D letter for the hood. They disappeared many sandings ago.
