No room undeneath? Weird rules? My total ignorance? ? No room plus it looks neat going out the side. More ground clearance since they were required to have mufflers. The cars got lower and lower over the years. This is what I got done today. It may need some fitting. Used .010" step flashing. I may close up part of the floor outside the frame rail... or close the whole deal up and find some small diameter mufflers. It was also good to get the noise out from under the car. 2
customline Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 This is way more complicated than I expected. ?. Your workmanship is impressive, Bob. I'm following with great interest.

I'm following with great interest. The aluminum box was fun. I'm leaving it bare metal. Getting the exhaust in will be fun. I will have to do it in 2 pieces per side and join it somewhere. Probably do that before the body goes on. 1
Volzfan59 Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 This is such a a great build. Thanks @bobss396 1
bobss396 Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 I'm going to hit the "easy" button with the finished exhaust. I have no desire to be farting around routing the semi-flex cable through small openings on a painted body/chassis. But it will look good. I worked on it earlier yesterday but went plant shopping with the girlfriend, got home late.

I have actual scar tissue on my right index finger from doing that. Plant shopping. Uhh.........nope. I'm not gonna say anything?
Volzfan59 Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Since I retired, pretty much hit the "easy button" every morning when I get up!
bobss396 Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 I'm juggling working on my yard, getting the pool open soon, working on my old Ford and so on. I'm helping my girlfriend with her house too, she lives 30 miles from me. I have most planters, flower beds cleaned up. I planted some tonato plants and cilantro earlier. Got more on the car done, I'll post an update later on.
bobss396 Posted May 3, 2024 Author Posted May 3, 2024 More progress. Chassis is in final primer, body needs a little finish work. I decided to hinge the deck lid. Seat belts are parts box items, painted Vallejo olive drab. My belts were army surplus back in the day. The Seat is from Ron Coon. Drive Shaft is done, aluminum tube and VCG Resin ends. I'm not sure if I like the fan. Roll cage is done. 2
customline Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Yeah, the fan.....what about a Flex-a-Lite? Do they go back that far?

bobss396 Posted May 4, 2024 Author Posted May 4, 2024 The chassis is painted with Ace Hardware gray, which dries fast and is durable. Interior panels and dash are Tamiya TS-4 German Gray. The engine needs a little more work and I'll pick out a PE flex fan for it. With some luck I'll be into chassis assembly probably on Sunday. 2
Rattlecan Dan Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Nice effort being applied here. Attention to detailing and accuracy are going to pay big dividends in the final build, I'm sure. Very nice work.
bobss396 Posted May 6, 2024 Author Posted May 6, 2024 Been working on it a bit. The chassis is almost done. I gave it a fit check with the body on. I had to give the piece I added to hinge the trunk more room. 2
JimmyRiggins Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 Now THATS a 51chev! Great build, I like the exhaust routing, I did a 66 chevy 2 kit up a similar kind of way, now I wanna find that kit and finish it! very well done 1
Volzfan59 Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 As always @bobss396, your work is spot on. I was thinking about this wip just the other day. For me, anything with an inline six gets my attention. 1
Zippi Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 This is one bad looking 51 Chevy Stock Car. I'm diggin it man.
bobss396 Posted July 9, 2024 Author Posted July 9, 2024 Thanks gents, I'm going slow since I bought the '66 Belair in late May. I put away a lot of what I had out on my "bench", aka the dining room table. I ran into one snag on the '51... the cage is about 2 mm too high and hits the roof... BACK IN THE BOX. I'd also like to get the front a little lower, as in getting the interior tub/firewall deeper into the body. The '56 Ford I'm doing has better fit issues. 1
Volzfan59 Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 @bobss396, Sure am looking forward to seeing that '56 Ford!!!
