evilone Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Ok i was looking up some 63 chevy longbed referance pics to draw up ideas for my 1:1 and found this beast. How much HP would this thing have? And would it be even street legal?
Jantrix Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Boy, it would be hard to say what sort of HP that thing would make. I've heard conflicting opinions on what advantage stacked superchargers would make. Lets face it, if it was that much extra power every drag racer would be running them right? Also the engine block itself doesn't look that big, but it's hard to see clearly from this photo. Secondly, I doubt that the owner even knows. Or if he does it's a guess-timate. That truck doesn't look as though it drives much further than from the garage to the transporter rig and back. A classic trailer queen and THAT is a whole nother topic. It's fun to look at but I doubt it would hold it's own in a race against a REAL race car.
LDO Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I also doubt that both blowers work. It seems like the belt would slip on the lower one. It can only contact a very small part, and it doesn't wrap around the pulley like the one on top. I'd say there's a good chance it has never been fired up like that.
Helipilot16 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Like many other show cars, this thing is built strictly for looks. I doubt if either blower has rotors. The engine probably doesn't even run. I've seen setups like this with carburetors inside when the owner wants the engine to run at all.
evilone Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 So basically this truck is all B.S. no power at all?
Guest promodmerc Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 So basically this truck is all B.S. no power at all? Yep. All show & no go.
evilone Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 DARN it Had a cool idea for my 1:1 oh well time for plan B. Dose anyone know how high on HP i can go while keeping my ride street legal in california?I heard it was 1000HP.
LDO Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I don't live in California, but I'm not aware of a HP limit. As far as I know, if it passes emissions, you're good to go (if it needs an emissions test). Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords did a buildup on a 1,043hp 445ci Windsor. It had a supercharger, but no intercooler. They had to stop at 6500rpm on the dyno, but the redline was 7000. They estimate it has 1100hp. If money is no object, the sky is the limit. Flatlander offers a bored and stroked SVO-block 460 with 806 cubic inches. Add a supercharger and intercooler and go nuts. Mike Murillo's 10.5 Outlaw Mustang drag car has a 541ci big block with twin intercooled turbos and a dyno-verified 2900hp. (I got to check it out when I visited Bill Buck race cars in Austin not too long ago. Wild car) It is a drag car, but hey, go with twin turbos on Flatlander's 621 or 806 and have a 2,000hp street car.

Cool thanks for the tip on fords but well the project is a 63 chevy C-20 longbed pickup.I want to keep it chevy powered and was thinking of the 572big block but the crate motor i seen had 800 HP but im young and well i get bored easy i want atleast 950 Hp to 1500 HP to scare the heck outta me plus i want to open up a small dealership for used imports if yha know what i mean LOL.
VW Dave Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 A big block isn't necessary to make big power. A local guy has a nasty twin-turbo SBC Camaro, which is driven pretty regularly in the warmer months....it's fully street legal, has a Lenco 5-speed trans and somewhere in the neighborhood of 1800-1900hp at the crank. His best time that I know of is a 7.90, but here's a 7.99 run:
Helipilot16 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 It's all about how much money you want to spend. Practically any engine can be made to produce lots of horsepower with the right power adders. There is at least one Porsche running around California with around 1400 horsepower. Toyota Supras with stock internals can produce at least this much h.p.. The most pump gas horsepower I have heard of was about 2800. This was an aftermarket big block. This one probably cost around $100,000 +. All this horsepower won't do you a bit of good without the right power train. Expect to spend at least another $25,000 to get the power to the ground.

Kevin, I am curious, have you ever driven anything with 700HP or more? Even 500 or so? It isn't like riding a moped, some expirence is needed in order to pilot such a beast....Like I said, no BS, jujst curious. I owned an 88 IROC, with a BBC making about 550HP or so, and for the street, it was plenty.... Dunno, maybe I am nuts, anyone else?
mountaindewd Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I think 800 hp is plenty to scare the heck outta ya. But then, I prefer a bend in the road. Feeling the tires bite is as nice as being buried in the seat. Les

I read evilone's post thinking he was talking about a model at first. When I realized he was talking about a real car I was thinking 1)all it takes is cubic dollars 2)is this a joke?
evilone Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 Well i might be nuts but i am serious i want this much HP and im not gonna stop myself from gitting it.I know it will hit alot of cash but heck i am a ego maniac if it turns heads then i want it and 1500Hp will turn heads for me.Plus i am a speed freak so i should be able to hang.

Not trying to upset your apple cart here, but aren't you the same guy that posted a rant over USPS postage a few months back? Footing the bill for 1500 HP will make that 30 bucks look like a penny laying in the street. CLICK HERE
Jantrix Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Ah go easy on the guy. We all had these pipe dreams for our ride and we still do. Kev's just a vocal sorta guy and wants to talk about them, it's all good. Like the rest of us he will learn that reality is often quite different than our big HP dreams. And one more thing Kev, these guys are quite right about how it feels to drive big HP. I can freely admit it takes more skill than I possess to do so. I love speed as much as the next guy, but with that much power under your foot, it doesn't take much to break traction and then there is no telling where you'll end up.
phantomw Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 I KNOW Mike Murillo's FOR A LONG TIME AND HIS CAR IS REAL NICE 10.5 Outlaw Mustang drag car has a 541ci big block with twin intercooled turbos and a dyno-verified 2900hp WE ONLY HAVE A LITTLE 388 THAT MAKES 2500HP
