Taking shape, the engine is looking good…

Thanks, guys.  Still plugging away.  Installed sub frame connectors and CalTracs.  Then, alternator and hub pulley.  Made a piece of scrap from original belt to use as an alternator bracket.  An homage to Harry P.  RIP.

Glued the engine in by the front mounting points, let that dry a bit, then installed the crossmember that I had cut off.  Finally, glued on the driveshaft.

Looking good. Where did the CalTracs come from?

Shapeways.  Ron Olson.  3D model specialties.  $6.50 per pair in 1/25 scale.

Cobbled (and I do mean cobbled) together a 6 point bar with some super glue resulting in the ugliest “welds” I have done on a model.  The super glue was not cooperating, so some kicker was used, also, and my shaky hands didn’t help, either.  Every model is an experiment for me.  Sometimes you learn what doesn’t work.  This model has gone on too long and my impatience is showing.  Though tempting, I try not to hide my errors.

Everything is taking shape, such a nice clean build

Thanks, Tony.  As I have mentioned before, I am a ceaseless experimenter.  It is time for the “chrome” trim.  My second time using the Hasagawa stuff.  My first time with the short scalpel with the curved blade.  I also use the 1 mm double hobby knife blade and cut out narrow strips as opposed to trimming on the car.  A couple of pictures that, hopefully, will allow you to see the results.  I like it, myself.  Relatively easy to apply this way, little buffing, definitely less wrinkly than bmf, and shiny.  Took some pics of the car before I started to give you some idea of what it looks like before.

Well, another day, another error.  Forgot to sand off the wiper blades, as very few stockers keep them on.  A few more strips of Hasegawa chrome and they will have to do.  Windshield chrome looks ok.  The stuff is harder to cut than bmf, but, luckily, there is very little trimming to do with the narrow strips I use.  Now, on to making some side windows, installing windshields, and making some class numbers and letters.  There is a 25 watt bulb at the end of this tunnel.

Stuck some chrome on the door handles with scrap pieces.  Looks like I am gonna be held up on this build for a few days.  Had to order some class designation letters and numbers.  I will work on the 57 Chevy C/MP or start a new build on a 56 Chevy jr. stocker.

Back on the Camaro.  Installed taillights, chrome pen on the parking lights before installing the lenses, and making driveshaft loop.

Couldn’t decide whether to Bring out door and trunk gaps, then looked at the hood on the model.  One side had a gap and it was black and looked realistic (isn’t that what this is all about?).  I admit the gaps look a little wide on the doors.  Also, glued grill on with some e6000.  Just saw I missed the gap between rear glass and the trunk.

Installed hood decals, dipped windshield and back window in the new “future “ and let it dry overnight covered from dust.

Letters and numbers installed on windshield and back glass.  Undecided whether I will make side windows.   A pic of the stuff i needed (Coke and remote not absolutely necessary).

Installed windshield and rear window.  I am liking the e6000 stuff more and more for it’s tackiness, strength, and ease of installation because of it’s thickness.

Great work so far!! I’m liking this a LOT! Are you going to make the chrome strip/divider for the side windows?

Thanks, Elliot.  I do my best to be truthful and show what works for me, anyway. I am almost always experimenting with different methods .  Oftentimes, the pictures reveal faults that I did not notice.  Thanks,  Keef, I took the easy way out and tried a new product for the divider. It looks promising for future chrome side trim, also.  Got the lettering done.

As I missed a couple of spots from the trunk to the back window, I tried mixing some gray with a drop or two black Tamiya panel line accent colors.  The pictures don’t really show the difference very well, but I like it better than black on this color of car.  Can’t change it on this car because the black base overwhelms the gray.  Think I will order some dark gray on my next order.

Got the interior in with the help of my great little shim/spreader tool that allowed me to go in from the end of the interior tub and pry out the body to clear the side windows.  The windows always seem to catch on the interior tub on most of my builds.  You change one thing, then expect other problems to surface.  Anyway, got the body on also.
