M W Elky Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 This is a mostly an out of the box build with parts box wheels and AMT slicks. The paint color is Tamyia maroon and the decals are old out of production Decals by Lucas . Boy were they fragile luckily I was able to fix some of them with a gold Sharpie . If you have old Lucas decals I would strongly suggest to have micro set and micro gloss one hand as they tend curl up and fall off. Also remember to keep your water very hot I like to boil mine in an electric tea pot .Yes the original TEXAN OLDS was a 1965 442. However I figured the chances of round 2 producing a 65 442 is slim to none and slim left town. If I was building another one I would do it with a white interior as it contrast with the dark body color better. This kit builds up really easy I’m so happy to see round 2 bringing back these simple to build kits of the 1960’s . I also find the bodies to be very accurate. Until next time thanks for looking. Hmann68 Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 Very cool, and something a bit different too! Looks great ?
papajohn97 Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 (edited) Nice build Mike! I applaud your efforts in using ancient decals, they came out great! I’ve read that old decals can be salvaged by spraying them with a clear acrylic spray (much like one is required to do when printing decals on inkjet decal paper at home) but then they need to be manually trim to size before soaking. I have yet to try this technique to determine if it helps with old brittle decals, maybe someone else here has and can comment? I’ve been building “non-shiny” models (ships, tanks, planes) all winter/ spring due to the low temps but I hope to start some car builds as it warms up. Love all your 60’s drag cars that you’ve been building & posting! Keep ‘em coming! Edited April 9, 2024 by papajohn97 Corrections
bogger44 Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 Heck yeah, nice to see another one of these built as a drag car! Looks great! Thanks for the heads up on the decals, I've got at least one set I've had for a long time, too.
stavanzer Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Another Great Olds Build. Very Sharp, sanitary build. You and Tony "Bogger44" have built a great pair of cars. Good Show.
6bblbird Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Love the Stockers! Good job on this one! I can remember going to a huge shopping mall as a kid ( Roosevelt Field for those that know of it) where there was a display of drag cars participating in the AHRA Nationals at NYNS. The VERY FIRST drag car that I had ever seen in person was a maroon Olds 442 from Mack Markowitz Oldsmobile. It literally was the day that I truly got interested in the sport. You brought back a very emotional moment for me! Thank you! WF
