Commission model assembler needed...  I have a couple of models of Dale Earnhart's cars and since I'm not good at building the finer models, I'm looking for an expert to assemble them.  I don't know what commission would be involved, but I'm open...    Thanks,  Ed

Are there diecast models available of the cars that you're looking for?

If you're just looking for something to put on a shelf, you're gonna come out way ahead with a diecast.

There are issues with commissioned builds that you probably don't want to deal with.

If you can find someone to do it for a reasonable price, you're very likely to get something that's going to be much lower in quality than a diecast.

If you can even find anyone who will do it at all, and do it well, it's going to cost you much more than you're likely going to be willing to pay.

Just the cost of materials alone to build a "fine" model can get quite high, and then time comes into the equation.

How much is an "expert's" time worth?

I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I certainly wouldn't even consider working on anything today, unless it was my own, for less than $10.00 an hour, and that would probably only be a possibility if I were doing it for a friend.

I don't keep track of my time on a project, but I'm pretty certain that it would reach into the 100s of hours, which at $10.00 an hour, will get you into the thousand dollar range, and that's just labor, and extremely cheap labor at that!

Is anyone willing to pay $800.00, $1,000.00, $1,300.00, $1,500.00 for a NASCAR model?

I can tell you that I wouldn't!

So, your most likely options are, build it yourself, find a diecast equivalent, or get ready to open your wallet beyond it's breaking point if you want a nice commissioned piece.......that is, if you can even find someone.

If you are willing to pay the price for a commission of a 'fine' build, be sure to see examples of the builder's work before a deal is struck, to ensure your expectations will be met.

Steven is right. Die Cast is the way to go. There are so many Earnhart die cast for sale starting at $24.00. Don't get fooled by the E-Bay scammers selling Hard to find Limited Editions for hundreds of dollars.

Ed, don't get discouraged. Apparently you have the model kits on-hand and need someone to build them for you. I'm guessing the kits you have also have some personal connection or significance. I've been building contract models for customers for well over 50 years, at very reasonable prices I might add. PM me some details about what you want built

Here's how i got some premium building services. A great builder that i follow, was looking for a 1966 Buick Skylark. I happen to have a few in various conditions, with grand plans of building a nice stock " one of these days". And since life right now doesn't allow me very much bench time i thought if i gave him a rare Skylark,  he might build 2 cars for me. Well I did contact him and made my pitch, and we agreed on the deal. While one car was painted by me 4 years ago I never did anything else to it. So the first pic is the car he got for his services,  the second pic is a Skylark he built for me from a Craftsman version and the Olds is the car I had painted, but he did everything else to my liking. 20240224_183542.thumb.jpg.528e48651e5fac9706fe9bc414b565be.jpgIMG_20240422_201511.jpg.362a6c04233e7a04a237b1dab7226f1c.jpgIMG_20240422_201515.jpg.134765ad5874487b9aace0e0aed56bc1.jpg
