I personally use several methods. One is good old Elmer’s white glue. The other is a product called Formula 560 canopy glue (https://www.towerhobbies.com/product/formula-560-canopy-glue/PAAPT56.html), and sometimes I’ll use Microscale’s Krystal Klear (https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Kristal-Klear-Microscale-Industries/dp/B0006O029E). The Microscale product doesn’t seem to have the strength the other two products have though. Formula 560 is the one I use the most and it dries completely clear and has very good holding power. Hope this helps.

Water based white glue is good. Any excess comes off easily. I have also used Tamiya X22 plear paint, it holds pretty well.

I use Testors clear parts adhesive.  Clamp the part in place, then I apply the adhesive thinned with a little water around the edges on the inside with a brush and let it draw between the "glass" and body.  Once it dries, unclamp and you're good to go.  For headlights I just apply around where the lens is supposed to go and put the lens in place, then adjust it a little with the point of an X-Acto so it's straight.  It'll stay put until it dries.
