Another very hot,and dry car show

Don’t get it,this show usually brings in over a thousand cars,or more,and a lot of vendors.But, idk if it was the heat,or if the fact that there were about ten other shows yesterday here on LI.?The turnout sucked.Lucky if there were a 100 cars.?‍♂️And the very polished “Rat Rod”,of course got Judges choice ,and best of show.A lot of work in that thing.Dammm.Actually the cars parked on the pavement were from an early coffee and cars show at a local mall i swung by.Should've stayed there. I think there might have been more cars there,than on the field.Oh well.And that Charcoal 66 Nova,is incredible,with more than 14 hundred hp.

Where was this? I went to the 231 cruise on Saturday with the Mustang, it was HOT and we left early to go home and hit the pool.

Bob,I was just curious,you said you were at the 231 cruise on Sat.Were you wearing a LIARS tee shirt?Reason I ask,was that I was talking to an older gentleman with a LIARS shirt on.Thought that might have been you.Again,what does your Mustang look like?

No LIARS shirt, I didn't run into anyone else from the club. But we left early. The Mustang is a 2020 in Kona blue... with the tree pollen all over it.

I gotcha,I have a black unmarked Crown Vic.Im sure we’ll run into each other one day possibly.?‍♂️

Yup, sooner or later. I'm having back spasm issues so I'm laying a little low right now. I'm waiting on a Hagerty quote on my "new" Belair, then a trip to DMV. The seat upholstery is on order. 

Next up from there is getting the new springs in all around, sway bar links and front shocks. Also an alignment, my buddy has a shop in Deer Park and he will be helping.

Did you say that you normally don’t go to any Sunday shows,can’t remember?Dpa is pretty cool,but it certainly isn’t how it use to be in its hey-day.I remember back in the late 80s-90s,Dpa was basically an illegal street drag- racing strip,and multi/parking lot car show.Street racing was going on all up and down Dpa,frustrating the Suffolk PD to the point where they were conducting “ road blocks”,for lack of a better word.They would check everything from a car’s reg and ins,to their exhaust being too loud,or to see if a cars window tint was too dark,& bla bla bla.Basically they were trying to make sure that street racing and just hanging out with your friends in a parking lot,watching the cars cruising by,and to check out the street racing,would end..And eventually Dpa’s racing days dried up,until it was just a few small groups hanging out with their imports.?.Actually the lot where the cruise night is now going on,use to be a HUGE hangout back in the day.God i feel old.?.In fact I remember bringing down my 69 Hem-orange Dart,and chilling out with my friends all night,munching on McDonalds,and Taco Bell..Of course I can’t do that any longer,since I have to get back home to the little lady.?Yea I really miss those days..Ah,oh well,?‍♂️the memories.?

You know Bob,i was thinking,we probably already ran into each other at some point.I think you said,that besides occasionally going to Dpa on Sat night,you sometimes go to LINADS Tuesday night church show out in Patchouge.

I've been working on the Belair, I am getting the Ford ready to fly soon. The Tuesday show is pretty good, I try to go on cooler days. The afternoon sun is murder with no AC. My Sundays are a day of rest mostly. I generally avoid formal car shows, I don't care for the mentality that goes with them.

I never raced on DPA, the cops were terrible even back in 1975-1976. It was 1982, the last time I "cruised" DPA. We were coming back from racing at Riverhead and had a stock car on the trailer, we had just come down from the LIE. My racing partner was a little bombed... he has me pull over by a group of guys with hot cars. He gets out and says , who wants to run right now for $500?

He pulls money out of his pocket (nowhere close to $500...). They fell silent, "what is it"? They might have never seen a stock car before, especially one that was creased on all sides.

I gotcha,yea,I have always hated the heat.No matter how old I’am?The best thing to probably do,is to go to shows(coffee,& cars) early in the morning.I mean that’s if u can get up really early on a Sunday.I don’t particularly like the shows with judging either.But they always have the best swap meets.I know there is an all Ford show tomorrow at  Pt.Jeff Ford.I might attend.Take my CV P 71.When i called the guy to ask him if Ford police cars are allowed.He went nuts,and said he’s got a bunch of Ford PD cars tomorrow attending the show.Talk to you later sir.

I'm about 10 minutes from the old OBI lot on Ocean Parkway, that one fills up fast and you have to get there by 6:30 or come back after 9. They have a porta-potty and a coffee truck, sometimes 2. Captree Boat Basin is nice, but they start charging admission on weekends, so the herd moves to OBI after mid April.

I can hear the cars heading down right now, I back up to the Causeway. I'm 2 stop signs from there.

Yea i sometimes go to Cape Tree,and the OBI.But for me,it’s just closer if i go to the Smithhaven mall Sunday show.I stopped by there today,but with the rain,it was of course,dead.I also attended the all Ford show,well set of all Ford,there were a few surprises.Good show,put on by The LI Mustang club.I’ll post some pics.
