NYLIBUD Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Some nice rides came down to the pre-father’s day cruise night.I tried buying that really nice vintage Hodaka, but the guy wanted too much cash?.Oh well. 4
Street Rod Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Some seriously sweet rides! Love the Mopars and the Camaro with flames looks straight out of an early 80’s Hot Rod magazine, but I think the yellow Mercury is the icing on the cake.

bobss396 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 I skipped it, I was at a wedding in Bethpage and got back too late.
espo Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Great looking show. I like how there is such a cross section of vehicles at these shows.

It used to be in a far bigger lot, but that got razed for a storage facility and a gym a few years ago. So it doesn't hold too many cars. It does pull a good selection. It does get blazing hot in the late afternoon as it faces west.

Yea your right, the original show started a few years ago just down the street, behind the McDonalds on DPA.That place had a lot more room,as you said, but like all great times,it had to end,as they locked us out,and rebuilt the whole lot. Then someone said,to move across the street.Well that lot was very small, and couldn’t hold too many cars. The lot where the show is now located,is also pretty small, but at least there’s some place to go to hang out with other car guys, and gals.As a matter of fact, the lot was one of the original DPA hangouts from back in the early 80s,when there was a Channel hardware store.Ah the good ole days back then of cruising up and down Deer Park Ave for hours. There were cruising spots all up and down the Ave.You would hang out and cruise late into the night. As a matter of fact,Hot Rod,and Car Craft magazines had listed 231 DPA as one of Americas best cruising spots, back in the day..
NYLIBUD Posted June 19, 2024 Author Posted June 19, 2024 (edited) Oh hell yea, look at the grille,so mean looking.I believe it was a 383 car.Glad u guys enjoy the picks.I love taking the pics of some amazing cars.Too the point, that I have decided i’m buying another car.Maybe a lower end Mopar,a 70,71 Swinger,or a Duster.I had two of them. One was a beater,360,and the other,a nice 340 Duster.I sold them.I really would like a Landcruiser possibly.I’ll have to see what’s out there. The car bug bit my arse again. The misses ain’t gonna like that. But oh well.??Too bad. bobss396 Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I remember the lot when Channels (home improvement store) was there. I did buy a level there to use on my house when I bought it in 1986. By 1975-1976 DPA was loaded with cops looking to write tickets. The Sunoco station way up north is still there, on the west side south of the Expressway. But the 260 pump is gone. There was a small corner lot on Carll's Path and Long Island Avenue. It had a small shack on it and a CAM2 pump. It was only open on a couple of nights a week. Cars would be lined up waiting to gas up. Some of us went to the local airports and used AV gas, 100LL. There is still a high-octane pump, OK Petroleum on Long Island Avenue, just east of Little East Neck Road in Wyandanch.
bobss396 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I may hit DPA on Saturday, it is 5 minutes from me. I'm working on my pool motor swap and helping my son with brakes on his Jeep but should be done by 4-ish.

bobss396 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I'm still waiting on the seats, maybe today or tomorrow. 231 is in the cards if I can get it back together. This is a 5 minute ride from home.
Toast Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Wow there's a lot of fat tries at that roll in! Some good inspiration. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
bobss396 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 I get my seats back today in a bit. My buddy is coming over about 5 to help me get them in place. The front seat has to go in via the passenger side. All I need to do is get the bolts started with a little help to hold the seat. So Saturday is possible.

Did you make it down there?I did stop by,but pretty late to meet up with a buddy of mine, and his friend with his very potent little bad A#% Maverick.By the time i showed up,there was only a few cars.Hopefully we are can meet up one day soon.Im curious to meet a fellow local model builder.
bobss396 Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I know that Maverick, haven't seen it for a while. I was there, ran into another LIARS member, a tall kid with a club shirt on. I was talking to the guy with the red Model A for a while. It was hot and only a few cars there, I split and went home, jumped in the pool.
