Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Like most modelers, I have my share of backburner builds and I'll share a few. First up is a 1966 Ford Mustang fastback that is a clone of the 1:1 that Year One built about 5 years ago. I started with a nearly mint, unbuilt AMT annual that I paid upwards of $100 for back in 2004. I have GREAT intentions of finishing this one in 2009. The most challenging part of this build will be in the application of carbon fiber decal to the hood. I've done it a thousand times in my head!!! I will have to make templates using masking tape and apply it in multiple pieces. Next up is an MPC 1971 Plymouth Cuda with a modified AMT Challenger chassis and underhood detail, powered by a Gen 3 Hemi. It is a clone of the one XV Motorsports built and the 1:1 is in my current avatar. I also hope to complete this build in 2009. It was started in late 2007 and has sat ever since. I have others but these two are my most significant and most deserving of completion. Marc
Aaronw Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I'm not even going to count but it has to be in the 20-30 builds range. 56 VW Kombi - This was my Dad's vehicle.. the one I learned to drive on. Finally got the paint from MCW and it is perfect color! Need repaint and will be done. I'd love to see one of these done as a deadhead mobile, growing up next to Berkeley I used to see a lot of them. Sadly my airbrush skills are not even remotely up to the project.

Foxer Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 What isn't on the back burner for me!?! My problem is that I start one kit, find another that peaks my interest, and then start on that one. It's a vicious cycle. My new years resolution this year is to work on one project at a time. I still mock up other projects to see how they will look, but I don't start gluing them. '49 Merc This one really intrigues me!! so hurry up already!!! (you're as bad as me with chickens in the pot)

VW buses have a nice flat canvas .. part of the reason they were so popular for murals. With the ease of making decals on an inkjet printer it's possible to create some pretty complex graphics for us lesser endowed freehanders. Note that I made the Kombi from a 23 window van by filling the roof and rear windows in. There is a panel van version without all the rear windows, a canvas for sure. Edited April 6, 2009 by Foxer
CAL Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I got a few more back burners than I would like. I will up some fotos later perhaps. Clearveiw Tamiya CLK Merc Revell Diablo Johan 500K Special Limo AMT Nova - for obvious reasons Revell Porsche GT1 - no real solution to the rear wheel problem. It will never look right with the same size wheel tire combo all the way around. 67 Eleanor conversion 57 Chevy ProMod w/ scratch built tube frame Tamiya 787B Mazda - Broken body bits Revell old 55 Cheve with opening everything Monogram??? been so long I forgot now, 51?? Ford PU with lift and superswapers. Linburg Crown Vic LAPD Monogram Porsche Speedster, modified "SuperSpeedster" Good idea poorly executed. Revell AG F2005, bad paint and other issues - starting over with new kit. Current WIP Revell AG Ferrari 250 which is on the verge of being a back burner.

I was about to comment about your conversion, because it's so well done. I love VWs in general. Buses in particular are close to me, because there were quite a few in my family, incluiding a couple of double cab pickups. I'll appreciate if you can give me the codes for these colors you used, since I'll be seeing the MCW guys at the NNL east in a couple of weeks. Thanks again, Fernando.
Clay Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Just like everyone else, I have got quite a few on the back burner. First up is a Dukes Hauler 1953 Ford Pick up 1934 Ford 1999 Ford Lightning 1953 Studebaker Starliner #1 1953 Studebaker Starliner #2 1969 Dodge Charger (General Lee) 1970 Ford Torino 2006 Dodge Charger (General Lee)
Clay Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) Continued 1963 Avanti #1 Sorry about the pictures, before I had an understanding on how to take them. Galaxie Trailer 2006 Dodge Magnum Monster 1953 Studebaker Nissan 350Z 1979 Camaro Snake Bite Monster Truck USA-1 Monster Truck Others include: F100 and Trailer Snaptite corvette and others that I don't know about or remember. I don't know why a lot of these are not done. The way they look to me they should be done. I guess its the fact that I have no where to put them when they are done so I think that's keeping me from finishing them. Edited April 6, 2009 by Clay
FujimiLover Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) 1999 Ford Lightning I could never get yellow smooth. Edited April 6, 2009 by FujimiLover

The codes from MCW are Sand Green L311 and Palm Green L312. I got the colors from bus photos I found where the owner gave the colors. These are special colors from MCW so might not be off the shelf at a show. I may check at NNL east with them too as I an low on the sand green and need to put more down. My brother-in-law lives in Wayne so NNL east is a for-sure trip this year. ))
