Well today started off being a real bad one.I went out to see some of my old teachers to get some letters for gitting me in UTI hopefully. On the way home i stoped at a traffic light like normal.Just when i took off a car in front of me hit a little kitten.I pulled over as quick as possable,Ran over to the poor thing ,got it out of the street, and was heading to my car to rush it off to a vet. Then the worst happened it died in my hands.I felt like crying there holding this poor creature. Now to let you guys in on something i may be a A@@ on here but to heart i am a animal person i have a house hold of 9 fish tanks with to many fish to count(all tanks are mine except one),15 cats(three of which are my own),3 dogs(2 of my own),and a lizard. This hit me hard to have something so innocent die in my care. The cop behind me pulled the car over a block down but the damage was already done. It's the type of thing that reminds you to live everyday like it was your last.I hope your guy's day started off better then mine did.

I'm also an animal person. I absolutely adore my cat, she's the sweetest animal I've ever known. Then there's my Dad's 1.5 year old Irish Setter who's an absolute pain in the rear, obnoxious, rambonxious, has no disapline, yet some strange unknown reason to me, I still like him! Why is that? Hate to love him, love to hate him? I'm sure he'll be much nicer when he matures.

I get mad and I hate it when I see dog's running loose in our Forest and walking along the streets by theme selves and I yell at the stupid dog's who chase cars. I may yell like I hate'em, but I'm only yelling cause I'd hate to see theme get hit. I'd also feel really bad for the pet's owner. I cry every time I see a dead cat on the side of the road, and even sometimes when I see dead squirels.

I know how you feel man, cat's are awesome and it hurts to see'em ran over by careless drivers. It's even worse when the drivers dont' care and just drive away.

This is one main reason I keep my cat indoors and I work very hard not to ever let her outside. That and being in the forest, we have animals that would make a snack out of her. I'd be completely lost and upset if I ever lost her. She's so sweet.

Man It is sad to have an animal die on ya like that but ya gotta think it was probably for the best that he did pass as fast instead of having to endure the agony of the ride there. We have a house full of little furry friends here too 8 cats 3 dogs and 2 ferrets. Animals are a big part of this house and we have had our share of deaths here so we know what its like to loose one. As for the cop pulling over the car I don't get that. some animals don't know about cars and the street and can't be avoided so unless the cars driver went out of his way to get the cat I don't get it

Hey man do feel ya. We have a house full of cats and crazy dogs. My wife and I love animals also. Losses are very hard, especially ones that could have been avoided. I read your story out loud to my wife and she just sat there with her head in her hands crying. It can really get to an animal lover. Sorry for your upseting morning. We're there for you man.

4132:MVC_085F.JPG]You don't have to explain a thing! I'm a 6'6", 310lb guy and I would have done the exact same thing! My cats are my whole world to me, their my children!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't bear the thought of losing them! They make me so happy and they never ask for anything in return. I truely believe that you can tell how nice a person is by the way they treat an animal. I was going to work one day and while traveling down the highway at 70mph, I noticed something fall out from under a car in the lane next to me, just forward of my truck. It was a kitten that had crawled up into the car to get warm and probably just couldn't hold on any longer. I was a wreck from then on, it still bothers me!! For a while, here where I live in San Antonio, Texas, we had someone that was killing cats and doing horrible things to them. It was on the news over and over. I tell ya, god have mercy on them if I ever get my hands on them!!!!!!!!!

It is a real heart breaker to see it happen.

Any animal.

I've seen a row of cars (3 out of 4 lanes)stop when a dog got loose and crossed a street.

Some Dumb SOB Girl was in a hurry and passed everybody in the open lane and hit it..

I'm sure she felt really bad but come on!! if everybody is stopping, why zoom pass them?

What if it was a loose child running across the street?? B)

It was truely a great thing that you did Kevin.

I'm sure it helped the kitten to move on..

They should've gotten at least a wreckless driving ticket for not being aware of their drivin situation.

My Cats are indoor cats because of it.

it's no picnic but it is far better and safer.

What tick's me off is seeing a dog loose in the back of a pick-up truck. Even if he's tied up he's still in danger. If you love your pet, and you have a truck, for heaven's sake invest in a bed cover to keep your pet safe. My cat is my life and we keep eachother happy. She has me well trained!

Zuk U'r absolutely right just because the traffic has stooped it doesn't give U the right to over take, it may only be a dog but it is a member of a family and if like me with 2 cats who R our children coz we can't have human kids it hurts when they die. This person should have done the right thing and stopped it make me so sad to hear that a family has lost it's little member of the family I hope the cop told the culprit what's what??.

It sucked big time for to me due to the fact that i had almoast lost on of my own personal cat's.The story goes like this when i was about 11 years old i found a little kitten. She had a pink collar with a little bow. When i found her her nose was bloody and messed up a bit so it looked as if someone tossed her out the car.But i threw the bow and mended her nose up and she declared me her owner.About 5 months later she got into a scuffle with the population and got a sist(idk how to spell that but i gave it a try).i watched over her like a hawk and one morning my bed cover was bloody and there was a blood trail into the bathroom. This little cat with all her smarts poped the sist and layed her head on her paw to stop the bleeding.Well my folks rushed her to the vet and that story ended well. Not about a year ago she had a sever weight reduction and no one knew why.Had about fifteen tests done and five perscription food handed to us.But she was still under weight so the docs looked at her mouth and found the reason. She had a decaing tooth that spread poison throught her body.Well after the surgury she started gitting fatter over night and im glad to say she is still with me.

Seeing this poor kitten reminded me that i was about to loose what i classified my whole world not a year ago.I felt bad but after i analized the situation i am glad it went so fast without pain.If it made it to the car then to the vet i still would have had to put it down due to the trama. But if it remebered anything i hope it was that a huge ugly looking human tried to save its life and in the end respected its earthly body by taking it out of the street.

I am glad that i am not the only one that went or felt this way. Thanks alot guys.

hey kevin

I feel you homie.

but on a sad note note a long time ago a black lab ran right out in front of me on a busy road and I swerved to miss it and slammed on the brakes but could not and hit it and it got up and ran away limping and crying and I could not pull over due to the traffic.

I think it ran out from a gas station and ran back to it so I hope and pray it got help. I did not see it until it was like 5 feet from my truck at a full gallop.

I did not go back because I was afraid if they were the owners what they might do to me. that was like 30 years ago

and it still upsets me today. and black labs are like my favorite dog . I have always braked for any animal.

but on a lighter note we have these gray geese with a black ring around there neck in our area that will just waddle out in traffic in a line of 6 or 7 at a time on a 50 mph road and everybody stops until they all get across and there talkin the whole way across and its hilarious !! I look at the other drivers and we all laugh cause these guys are so funny !!!

I guess cause they know they rule lol !!!

and we have 3 cats and fish but as the saying goes

"women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea" lol !!!!!!

Cat's Rule, and dog's drool. You can train a dog, but the cat train's you. A dog will ask you to play fetch with it, the cat will say, "If you want it, why did you throw it in the first place?"

Nancy and I are real animal lovers. We have two cats and four dogs; all rescues. The dogs are a Dalmation, a Basenji, a Kelpie, and the latest; an Airedale. They are all very expensive dogs that either got loose from their owners or were given up by them to adoption agencies.

We got the Dalmation in 1997. We were at a night race at Top Gun Raceway. A Dalmation came wandering out of the desert. He had roofing tar up to his belly. Someone had dumped him in hot roofing tar and turned him loose. It took two days at the vet and two gallons of ether to remove it. He almost died.

We live out in the desert, and exercise our dogs regularly with long walks. The two cats are kept indoors at all times.

While I am a Marketing exec, I actually probably know horses better than what I know for a living. Animals and cars are my life. Marketing is what pays the bills. There is no worse feeling than losing one of our friends. The thing to remember is that it is actually a blessing that we feel that way in that we at least have the sensitivity to let that feeling come into our lives. in an age when everything has a re-set button or all the answers are merely on a spreadsheet, feeling an emotion that comes from caring is something that is human and cannot be replaced.

I lost two horses and a lab in one year. I would of rather had a needle in the eye and be kicked in the groin than go through that.

We had a horse training client that actually taught their cat to use the toilet!! They did it by first training to the litter box and then put the littter box on the toilet. They then gradually made a hole in the box. I guess it took a few weeks but they did it.

Any cats I own always live in the barn. We only have one currently, but she supervises the labs.

I read the other thread and it made me sad to hear what happened so i found this thread and was still sad but i have to say my wife and i feel the paiin we have done pet rescue for yrs since we met and she moved to live with me . we started out with two cats brothers actually one orange and one black . they were with us for two years. Inky and Sandy were joined by a prussian blue named schroeder who showed up on our porch in the rain . And once people found out we did rescue they would drop off animals when we werent there. like the idiot who dropped off his cat and his girlfriend's with out her knowing . then we had the two kittens we bottle fed from the one vet's office the male we lost to illness after months and the female was adopted out along with the 20 or so other cats and dogs . Since having our lil girl in 07 we have stopped doing the rescue we have our Chuy (lab great dane and pitty mix) and a lil yorkie named pebbles along with the ghost of Nahla ( feral cat we couldnt adopt out but was sorta tamed by my step daughter and myself . we also losat her to ilness .

Sorry to ramble on but i feel better now . long live our pets !!!!!!!!!!!

I know exactly how you feel, Kevin. Years ago when I lived in Huffman, Texas I was walking my dog back from the 7-11 when her leash broke. She shot across FM1960 and almost made it until some jackass in a Firebird hit her and kept on going! Instead of a fun Friday evening, I wound up conducting a funeral and a wake, and walked around with an emptiness in my gut for about two weeks.

Sorry to hear this Kevin, it`s not a nice feeling. About 15 years ago when i had a side car on my bike, i cleaned up a young cat on my way home from work. I picked up the cat (she was dead straight away) and looked in the yard it came from. Saw a heap of toys and placed the cat in the side car out of sight. I knocked on the door and described the cat quietly too her, turns out it was her daughters cat. She placed the body in the boot of her car so the child would not see it. Don`t know how she dealt with the issue, glad i did not have too.

We have 3 cats here, a grumpy 10 year old and 2 psychotic 2 year olds. Never a dull moment here.
