simonr Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) Model Factory Hiro has a serious name in the model making business, but, it's not until you open a box of their model and discover a true masterpiece inside. With this model I will have to take my magician hat and stick and make some magic to finish this impressive model car kit in about 3 weeks or less in order to be on time for next 2009 GSL XXII...let's see what happens and what's inside... With just see the outside of the box, you will stasr to think that somethin not common it's inside due to the look of this box, this is not the kind of box we are custom to see every day. When you opened the box I said: "This a mayor league model kit". Everything is perfectly separated..nothing less for a $200+ kit. How many parts!.... What a bunch of white metal parts!, over 100 and almost everyone has to be polished the desired look..I guess it will take forvever! Crisp and clear of imperfections body inside a solid plastic clear box that can be used to display a 1/43 or 1/28 model. Tires and wheel are also here. The body in one piece with the turned parts. The sectioned body. Real impressive photetch pad. Almost al the parts are free of the spure that hold the part, it's all peel and glue! Decal sheet and the vaccuformed bubble windshield. As impressive as the rest of the kit. Simón P. Rivera Torres Edited April 13, 2009 by simonr
simonr Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 The action has started, after a couple of nights most of the parts were cleaned, just waiting to separate the etched parts that will be painted in the the different shades of black. Here we can see also a clouse up of the parts with it's black color designation. The front suspention parts are test fitted in order to avoid any surprises at final stage after painting the parts. This is one of the cons with this kit, if it can be called this way, everything has to be test fittted. Here can be seen the front suspention partially mounted. The engine block with the transmition attached. At this stage, everything starts to take color. Simón P. Rivera Torres
simonr Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 The rear suspention frame with some of the turned parts, like the shocks, attached. The block, transmition and frame together for the first time...Now we have color! The chassis/cockpit floor along with the front and rear suspention components. Simón P. Rivera Torres
simonr Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Now everthing has been put apart for painting... Simón P. Rivera Torres
Foxer Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 That is gorgeous .. please keep this up, Simon! I've always wanted to see a MFH kit close up like this.
Nick F40 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I always thought this was cool, I'll be watching this.
Crazy Ed Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Simon, You got my attention! I've been thinking of getting the Watkins Glen version. Ed
simonr Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Here again...Although it doesn't look a lot, it has take a lot of night until late hours. In this stage, I'll be taking care of the black colored parts and chassis detailing. To give certain variety, I'll be using different blacks, from acrylic, enamel, and lacquer. Here can be seen the great amount of parts that has been cleaned(white metal folks!). The amount of different black shades. Even the distribution cap wire has to be painted, because, it comes in raw metal shade. This tiny parts that has just milimeters of lenght are to be painted also in black.
simonr Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Now already inside the cockpit, there's nothing like buffed metal for the true look. It has scuffed with a wire brush on my Dremel. The front suspention components are already mounted. It just need some caliper wiring and plumbing. It has to wait until some nuts and bolts arrive from the mail. Simón P. Rivera Torres
simonr Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) The rear suspention also almost completed, but, like it's front counterpart...it has to wait for the mailman. Now, everything together in a mockup for the very first time to see how it looks... Simón P. Rivera Torres Edited April 13, 2009 by simonr
Crazy Ed Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Simon That is progressing GREAT. Are you adding ADDITIONAL Detail Hardware? Ed
simonr Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Well, this model doesn't need anythingelse that it's included in the kit, ideed, but, it will need some plumbing in the calipers area and over the transaxle. Also, aditional clear tubing, because, the included in the kit it's way to short for what its needed. These plumbing also included aditional nusts. I'm considering also substitute the plastic black braided line included, for more real Protech or Detail Master metal one. Thanks for watch the post. Simón P. beefheart22 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) Lookin good! The metal looks METAL! I like your idea of taping parts onto popsicle sticks and labeling their color. I think I'm going to try that. Edited April 13, 2009 by beefheart22
simonr Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 I forgot these ones... Simón P. Rivera Torres
87 Grand Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Wow!!!!That's all I can say about your build. I think that because this kit is all metal, it does look like metal and not painted metal plastic. Beautifully detailed so far. Your doing a fantastic job so far. Can't wait to see the body finished. Keep us posted. I'll be drooling over this one. Again outstanding work.

Simon you might want to check with some friends that go Fishing for some Mono Fishing Line for your clear lines. I'll bet where you live there's a life time supply in just about any diameter you want just for the asking ! If you need a tint, a colored Sharpie ought to do the trick. And don't thank me for watching - Thank You for Posting. Ed
simonr Posted April 14, 2009 Author Posted April 14, 2009 Ed: Thanks a lot for this great tip, but, the thing is that I had tried it in the past, but, this model in special comes with some PE connectors on the stacks to the fuel pump and it has to be clear tubing that I already filled with a mix of clear yellow and clear red for the gas tint inside the line. I a;ready sent for it, I just ha ev to wait for it and start it all over. Simón P. Foxer Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 has to be clear tubing that I already filled with a mix of clear yellow and clear red for the gas tint inside the line. Wow! That's in the true spirit of the MFH kit! Awesome idea, Simon
Raul_Perez Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Very impressive build, Simón!! Please continue to keep us posted on your progress!! Thanks for sharing,
Peter Lombardo Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Great looking build up....seeing a MFH kit up close and personal like this goes a long way to help justify the higher cost. Nicely done so far.
