Well , here is another first for me. In trying to go the extra yard here, I thought I would try CTM’s pe ‘weld beads’ ……. Although a bit tedious as they are such a fine piece to work with, but beautifully detailed and are soft enough to go around some very tight curves and still lay reasonably flat, I think they may quite well be worth the effort. The tanks I’m using in the conversion are old ones from an AMT Kenworth cabover kit that bace been in my stash since about 1978….. I did say old …. As previously mentioned, they were de-chromed and sanded smooth, the weld seams on the ends cover up the seam from the end cap to the tank beautifully. I am hoping under a coat of paint these will pop ….. we’ll see I guess ….

Me too fellas. This could be a bit of a game changer for some kits for me for sure ….. a few more details to the tanks and then to the paint shop …. As always, thanks for checking in and the comments ..

Tanks look great Jeff! ?

I'm sure you'll find a good color scheme too.

Keep going Buddy!

Thanks, pal …. I think the colors will be dark green and white …. Just not completely sure of the scheme…..As you can see I started masking, and so many directions were going through my mind it go very taxing…… I’m thinking old school scheme, so went to my fav’s file with a few pics , and the more I looked the more  questions came to light ….. and as Sean said in James’ thread, “I’m not defusing explosives “ here , it felt like it for a while yesterday… nothing of any value was coming my way…….. so , we’ll see what today brings …. Thanks for taking the time to check in ….

When this build is done, it will look like a real truck, dirt, grease and all, somehow magically shrunken to 1/25 of its original size!  Can't wat to see it!

Those White Freightliner stripes should be perfect with the colors you're going with, and they'll hide any bleed-through. Great idea!

Well …. It looks like it’s time to get the tooth paste out … my own fault for being sloppy I guess.  I thought I had it but it seems I wasn’t quite as tight as I thought. BUT no bleed over on the door hinges or any other anomaly, which js a win but I am mad at myself for being too sloppy …. If the tooth paste does’t give me what I want I will touch it up with paint

Well, I'd say that turned out very nice! Certainly better than mine did, but that's typical for your entire build! Looks like our color schemes are similar, although with different colors.

How do you plan to use the toothpaste?

It’s an old trick I heard about years ago and it works …… it works better if the paint is a bit soft and I have only used this for enamel and NOT acrylic. …. You have to use a somewhat abrasive tooth paste like Colgate, take a QTip put some t/p on the damp end and gently rub the area you want to remove the paint from…. Keep the q tip damp and keep t/p on the tip. It is like a real fine cut polish then wash or wipe the cleaned area

Compare …. Altho not 100% perfect it is much much better than it was and what little bit of sputch will be covered with a stripe decal, can still needs a bath to take t/p residue off …. And it may take a couple sessions, I did another touch up and am quite happy with how it turned out and it makes any slight paint adjustments much easier

It looks WAY better in real life, these macro pics, bug me , as it still looks messy, but I assure you, I gave it a bath, and it looks much better and cleaner, what you see above is it still with the tooth paste cut polish on... once I get the stripes on I think they will hide all sorts of nastiness.... the pics don't do it justice..... sorry guys..

What in the world - two unmasking's in the same day , what a treat.  Love the green and white paint, are you going to outline with gold ?

Yes the camera can be your best friend or worst enemy for finding flaws you never seen till you post pictures !

Sheesh you guys are wanting me to build another truck model.

??not sure if this was a treat or not. Lol but I’m very glad you stopped by, Sean…. Well yes as I have the AMT Freightliner cab over kit, my plan is to use the black and gold stripes from that kit, and when it comes time to do the Freightliner it will be an old school paint and decal job for Tri Line freight from Alberta. That’s the ‘plan’ ….
