Custom Hearse Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I have to stop doing models for awhile do to an injury to my hand. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to it soon. Thanks to everyone who gave me their help with the work and support I've done so far with my builds. I'll still be lurking about, but I won't be able to work on anything. Thanks everyone! Marshall.
59 Impala Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Sorry to hear this Marshall. Take care and I hope it's not to bad. We'll be here and waiting for your return. Dan

ricky12 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 dont give up to sone thats how i realy got back to the hobby . the first week or two it was realy hard learing to get by with one hand . but then i found a plastic parts bag for my hand and some practice i could get alot more work done than i thought. so hang in there.
george 53 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Rick's got some good advice there,Marsh. You can ALWAYS use some recovery therapy! It'll keep your fingers nimble, and your muscles from getting stiff! Yessir, just consider it a part of your therapy.Unless of course you ACTUALLY have your hand removed,In which case, models are the LEAST of your concerns!
RodBurNeR Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Sorry to hear about your hand, but I want to say DON'T GIVE UP! I know a guy that only has one hand and builds some of the nicest models I know of and runs two businesses! It's like the old saying...."where there's a will....there's a way".... I know another guy that quit building because of a car accident and his hand got messed up. I know your hand will heal and all.....but just saying, it might seem like a pain in the buttocks to build one handed, but if you love modeling enough give it a shot! Get well soon.
CFnutcase Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 What the heck did you do? I cant see you quitting on models, I bet you will be holding the hobby knife in your mouth and working on them if you have too! Oh wait that wont work, you couldnt talk, and for those that know you we know you could not make it if you couldnt talk! LOL! Sorry to hear about your injury but I bet you are back at it sooner than you think, look at me, I try to kill myself in a new and different way weekly and I am always back at it! Jim
Modellpularn Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Hey man, that's not cool at all! But I hope you get better, and get back to building models again.
Abell82 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I know how that goes, good luck and wishes for a speedy recovery!!
Custom Hearse Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 Thanks everyone. It shouldn't be too long (I hope). My hand is really swollen up bad, and was told by the doc to not do anything with it, so I'd rather let it heal up than aggravate it, so I'll just take it easy for a little bit and take a break from models. I shall return!
RJWood Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Sorry to hear about your injury. That means the Mer~Rodder is on hold. Take care of yourself, and get back to it when your better. This will give you a chance to think about your next few projects.
Jon Cole Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Marshall, it's good to follow doctors orders, but have you considered just quitting detailed models, and just try something simple? In 2003, I had Carpal Tunnel surgery to my wrist. I was out of commission for six weeks During that time, I built a pre-painted '57 Chevy, the one from Revell: I even did a plate to remember the reason I built it: So hang in there! -Jon-
Custom Hearse Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Sorry to hear about your injury. That means the Mer~Rodder is on hold. Take care of yourself, and get back to it when your better. This will give you a chance to think about your next few projects. Just for a little while more.... The swelling in my fingers and hand is starting to go away, so i should be back with it soon. Thanks RJ! Marshall, it's good to follow doctors orders, but have you considered just quitting detailed models, and just try something simple? In 2003, I had Carpal Tunnel surgery to my wrist. My problem is, is that I can't leave well enough alone. I could buy a pre-painted snap together, open the box, and start to build it. But then I think of something that would be really cool to do to it, and then the trouble begins. I just can't build a straight out of the box kit!
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 (edited) What's goin' on... Hang in there!!! I know what you're going thru. An 11R24.5 truck tire blew (zipper) breaking my right arm in three places back in 02. Just take it a day at a time and before ya know it you'll be back in business!! An 11R24.5 truck tire blew (zipper) breaking my right arm in three places back in 02. Just take it a day at a time and before ya know it you'll be back in business!! WOW!!!! You are lucky! Was it being worked on at a shop? I heard when I was a driver those things can kill you. All I can say is I'm glad that's all it did to you. Thanks for the encouragement, and soon I should be back at it.

To make a long story short I patched/plugged the tire remounted it and was airing it up when it exploded. I guess you can say I got lucky.
Custom Hearse Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 All the same, I'm glad you made it! Be careful around those tires.... They bite back!
