History of the Mellotron instrument

I found a portable model in a thrift store ( !! ) some 30 years ago. I couldn't believe it ! There was a sign on it which read :"WORKS. $150"

Of course, I didn't have a buck-fifty on me (car stuff, y'know) , but my buddy may've ! 

I rushed to his place (about 7 miles) and told him about this amazing find. Now, this was the time before cell phones and whatnot, so travelling to his apartment was the only option when he didn't answer my call from the (greasy) pay phone at the fuel station.

By the time we got back to the thrift store, the Mellotron was gone ! All in a matter of 15 minutes, tops.

Yes and Genesis music is where I came to know about the Mellotron. I seem to remember Rick Wakeman saying something like "give me a couple of minutes and I can make any sound you want".
