As a ‘resto mod’ …. And I agree with Hakan , personally as I have watched many of the car shows on tv ( too many says Cathy ) it seems to me to be a mix and match thing those guys do, and if, in real life a guy was to do a resto mod, I would think it would start out in the shop as two frame rails on stands waiting for what comes along to be bolted on …. Just a random thought as a ‘ resto mod’ is a blank canvas…. Open to all sorts of radical moves…. Might have to beef up the frame a bit for a double turbo V12 tho ….??

Checked again at ST , only in 1:24 scale ( although May work as I have mixed these scales before) but sold out. Checked a couple other sites and no go, looks like an opportunity for a printer person. IMG_2153.thumb.png.893f581058899b58b3b63773edf8e111.png

The difference between 1/24 and 1/25 in this case I would think would be minimal and there would be few if any issues , that’s my 7 cents worth ( 2 cents Canadian plus exchange )!! ??

Agreed, most hot rods from my youth were built from whatever you could find/ accumulate. This is my idea of a Resto Rod, a 1:1 truck I built in 92 and 93. IMG_2116.thumb.jpeg.4f331b4021c8ba4c4a40ed0af6c4bfab.jpeg

this is a 1960 Chevy pickup, all I got from the seller was the sheet metal and frame ( unfinished project that I bought for 200 bucks) Engine is a 402 big block from a camper special Chevy truck) Turbo 400 short shaft from a pile of transmissions, rear axle from a 70s Transam with 4:10 gears and posit track, front suspension from a 72 Chevy half ton truck, redrilled rotors, driveshaft from an Elcamino, steering column from a GM car, wheels from a Corvette (rear) and from a Mote Carlo (front) and so on. I retained the mostly original body just updating the running gear

I LOVE that pickup !

Gary, if you'd prefer to have a Neway air suspension, I have three extra ones, unopened from Auslowe, if you would like to see it fits for your build. If want me to send it along, PM me an address!  Going to be a great build!

I am speechless, I am so glad to be in this group. Brian, thank you very much for the offer. So many people in this group have offered to help with this silly idea of a build from printing parts, sending parts to just bouncing ideas around.
Thank you, I thought I was just kinda out of luck so I marched on with the eight bag KW air suspension. Post up progress in a while.

The KW eight bag air suspension is on with a few details to finish. Installing this suspension without all the locating tabs from the original frame creates some concerns, is it square and are the axles spaced correctly. Couple years ago I made a fixture to help overcome those issues. I can use the fixture for a two axle or three axle setup. IMG_2154.thumb.jpeg.0abfe07b70dcfccde579a6203f347b3c.jpegIMG_2155.thumb.jpeg.0f1ef8fde5ed61c82d6eb04bb6fd8dd4.jpeg
found a steerable front axle in my parts, that will built next, then third air lift axle.

I remember the fixture solution from your International Paystar build - great idea! (sent you a PM about the Tyrone engine)

Adding third lift axle with locating fixture. Will use slow dry epoxy to attach frame stands so I dial in the location. I drilled and pinned the arms so I can rotate the axle , may build this with axle posed in the up position  IMG_2156.thumb.jpeg.c4dfd7d19baa2cbdb8f1ad4aecf4989b.jpeg

Agree with you Hakan, but I spent a whole evening trying to find something in 1:25 scale air ride and could not find anything. I did order an air glide from a 3d printer but can’t get confirmation of the order or delivery date. I will check ST again in case something just came in. Even thought about hacking apart a 900 KW which I may still do (parts molded to frame). Just happened to run across that Cabover KW for cheap and I thought, well that will work. So for the moment it’s still up in the air.

It's allright, it's your model and you do as you please, it was just a suggestion.

As for 1:24th and 1:25th scale the difference is so small that you will not notice it, and many of Auslowes parts are for 1:24th scale but you can almost call them multi-scale, because he doesn't have the same parts in two different scales and they will work on both.
So you woun't have any problems using 1:24 scale parts on a 1:25 scale build.
When it comes to scales you can see it like this, 1:24th scale is 24 times smaller than the real thing and 1:25th scale is 25 times smaller, and 1 inch in the real world is just over 0.0416 in 1:24th scale and 0.04 in 1:25th scale, not much difference.

Great explanation, I have used 1:24 on a 1:25 build as the lift axle is labeled 1:24 that I am using on this build. I also have noticed that advertised scale is not also correct either. Thanks for jumping in the post. It’s always good to get input from builders who are very experienced.

After a day with my wife Christmas shopping, I really…….i mean really needed to get back to bench. All axles mounted, parts from everywhere. Had to add a bushing to the wheel inners then drill to match the rear axle diameters. Running floats on the front, wide singles on air lift and duals on the drive axles. I will able to tuck the wide singles into the rear fenders nicely as they will be affixed in the up position when completed. IMG_2162.thumb.jpeg.427b7bb3a03ae33a6f5443ef813a4bbb.jpeg

Coming along nicely, Gary - those super singles are quite the tires!

I have used the super singles front tires many times and do a good job of filling up those fenders. I have not built with any rear super singles on a lift axle. We will see how this works out. Just did a mock-up to get a visual. Everything on this build is subject to change with no rules.

Lookin good, at this rate you will beat me to the finish line too ! Have you decided on a color choice yet? Absolutely NOT telling what you ‘should ‘ do but in ‘my minds eye’ a dark burgundy with gloss back fenders and the same burgundy on the frame and drive line with chrome bolts and pin striping on the frame rails …. That would look very rich with all the chrome …..thats ‘my’ dream …. I can’t wait to see what you come up with, Gary…. This is such a cool build idea ……. a vision that can change at a whim …. Love it !!

I know what colors I don’t want, Red, turquoise, or white. Colors I set out so far; TS 51 Dark racing Blue and  TS 11 Maroon. I may look thru my decals for something appropriate and that may choose the color for me. That’s what happen with my beer truck build, decals where red, white and black.

The Maroon would look sweet on that style of truck. Its always fun to try and figure what will work…. Those decisions for me can come any time any where sometimes no where near the bench ….

I will check to see if I have any Maroon colors, I might try some test plaques
