MarkJ Posted February 9 Posted February 9 De nada. Had to look that up. Don't speak any Spanish at all but my wife's pretty good cause if you're a teacher down here in public schools, you better know a little at least and she's a retired kindergarten teacher. More useless info from me. By the way, "si" to what's going on with the engine. Thats "yup" in Spanish.
absmiami Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Bitchin’ Camaro - by the way The Weber carbed Lotus 25 had a special Lucas spark distributor that utilized a generator mounted as pictured - this went away when the engine was converted to fuel injection - think - not sure - that this arrangement would have been used on the Lola and Brabham
absmiami Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 This engine mount plate was made from two pieces of .012 Evergreen sheet - its different than the part on the Tamiya 20th scale engine - that part is accurate for the fuel injected engine but not for the ‘62 Weber carbed 25
absmiami Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 2 steps forward 1 1/2 steps back … The first monocoque casting had excessive length for the eng compartment chass horns - mostly because i wasnt sure how much space i needed for the engine and the exhausts … but now i know so I’ve surgically removed (sawed off) about 3 scale inches - the monocoque is now very close to scale spec …
absmiami Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 But turning my attn to the engine compartment and susp bulkhead i’ve realized that i need to make another correction… this is a good drawing of the bulkhead that completes the back of the monocoque …
absmiami Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 I’m making something a little smaller than the corresponding Tamiya 20th scale kit part - which has the correct shape …
absmiami Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 But i then realized that the 25 was designed and built with chassis “legs” that taper to this bulkhead - so the monocoque is 28 inches wide at the driving compartment - but tapers to 26 inches at the last bulkhead - oops -
absmiami Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 The bulkhead width now matches the tapered width of the legs of the moncoque - sp its flued together with some supports top and bottom - and the forward engine mount bulkhead is trimmed and bolted to slide in/out of the engine bulkheads - Master Club bolts -
absmiami Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Some work on the white metal parts fr the Lotus kit that I’m actually using ….
MarkJ Posted February 18 Posted February 18 What exactly is white metal anyway. I remember toys I had back in the fifty's that were made out of it.
absmiami Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 Zinc aluminum and some other stuff …. As more and more things are produced 3D and printed - it will become rare - hard to produce - has to be cast - but harder to cast than resin - castings produced by centrifugal force - you gotta spin the master mold - neat stuff - it’s kinda neat that MFH still makes its kits with the stuff …
absmiami Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 And a coat of Tamiya spray can primer to see where I’m at - the fuel filler pipe is modified from the 20th Tamiya Lotus kit - tried to make one from brass and epically failed …
absmiami Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 Fake out the monocoque was cast in dark resin - not painted til yesterday ….
MarkJ Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Have you updated your account yet, or is that a scam at the top of the screen in red? I don't even remember my password. Why is a login change coming?
absmiami Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Here’s what the Climax 1 1/2 litre cam covers look like …
absmiami Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 This is a resin Climax engine fr a rare Joker Lotus 33 kit - long story - forgot to mention this - this obscure Joker kit is the base for my equally obscure WIP thread on the Lotus 32B - anyway …
absmiami Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Using Evergreen strip and sheet i’m making cam covers that will look like the Joker castings - according to my drawings - the Joker cam covers are just a bit short - mine will be about a scale 1 1/2 inch longer …
absmiami Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 (edited) The domed bolts in the third pic are Decalcas printed bolts .08 mil - they come on a sheet w multiple sizes …. Edited March 1 by absmiami Mistake
