johnyrotten Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Just looking for options how everyone secures resin tires for airbrushing. I've already made something, but if there happens to be a faster, or simpler way I'm all ears. Here's what I've come up with. 5

Here's what I've come up with. i can see it working on hollow tires but not on solid ones. i use a lot of resin -3D tires on my truck builds. i have always laid a strip of 3/4 masking tape down on a scrap piece of a cardboard box and lay the tires on the tape. once dry i turn them over. tape does not leave any residue.. 1

These are iceman collections, they have hollow "segments", I agree they wouldn't work with anything solid. I like the tape idea, first time using anything resin, good to know the adhesive shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the info. 1

I do this too using double stick Scotch tape. I also will drill a small hole in the back side of the tire and impale it on a tooth pick. Or even in the tread. 1 1
Shark Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I don't paint tires often, but I usually l tape them flat on a paint stick and spray the tread a black that is a little lighter. After drying, tape the treads up and spray the sidewalls a gloss toned down black. Later apply the lettering decals and once they have set a day or two, spray a couple light coats of Dullcote clear. 1

I've made up 10-12 color test, and coated half of each with dull coat, that really adds "depth" to the different shades. I should have just bought a tire black, this project has some self imposed limitations. Thanks for the reply
IceMan Collections Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 This is close to how we paint them in the shop. We break toothpicks and cross them inside the tire. Add a little glue and once dry we hold them with an alligator clip. But we have seen people tape them flat as well. I believe it's a matter of preference. Btw, thanks for the support. We appreciate it.

Very happy with everything, you and your company are awesome. Thank you Edited December 22, 2024 by johnyrotten Spelling
