SideKickLemon Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Hi everyone! I am currently encountering some problems when I used Tamiya Surface Primer Gray for a base color of Tamiya Pearl White (TS-45) for my Aoshima kit. I sprayed the TS-45 in a light mist coat on the body with the gray primer but the white color didn’t appear, only the gray color from the primer is visible. After waiting for 15 mins, I applied the 2nd coat (heavy) of the Pearl White spray can to see if the white color will appear this time, but it still remains the same. I also noticed that there were uneven painted areas and paint bubbles after spraying the body with the base color. Should I sand it down and redo the painting process? Any help and suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you very much!
jaymcminn Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Hi Francisco, welcome to the forum! An admin will probably move this post to the Q&A section where you'll get more responses. All I can say is that Tamiya Pearl White absolutely needs to be applied over a white substrate. That can be Tamiya white primer or the new TS-101 Base White. Tamiya's whites in general offer pretty lousy coverage and no matter how much you apply you'll never get a true white when applying over grey primer. On the plus side the pearl effect on the Pearl White is particularly nice when you get the hang of applying it, so it's definitely worth the effort! I would recommend stripping and starting over with white primer. Hope this helps!
Daddyfink Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Bubble from Tamiya spray usually indicate too much paint being laid down. Light coats and one final wet one usually works best. And yes, a white base would have worked best.
bobss396 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I have shot it over white primer with success.
