mr moto Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Hi! Does anybody know of a source for any good material (from an aftermarket hobby supplier, craft store or whatever) that would look like a 60's style Kustom Kar shag carpet. You know, kinda like the fuzzy slippers look! I've used flocking and it's okay but not at all the look that I want. I picture something that has a light weight fabric backing that could be cut to size like real carpet. Any ideas?
george 53 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Manuel, have you tried lookin at some velvet? There are some different types that have different lengths, and weights that might work. You might try goin to a JoAnnes fabric store an tellin the lady at the "measure/cutting"table you'd like to see some Velvet or Velour an she can show you. I hope this helps.
arby1949 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 If you can find some scraps of leather, and turn it over and use the back side. a good source is places that sell leather furniture, they usually have some extra swatches. they update their samples periodically and usually discard the old samples. another possibility is an upholstery shop. I have enclosed a couple of photos of a '55 Chevy interior in which I used this method. It really looks like shag carpeting.
FujimiLover Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 What about velcro? Not the spiky grip side, but the soft fuzzy side? That comes in all sizes and colors and has a sticky back as well. I'd try velcro.......................
Lyle Willits Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Up until the late 70's, maybe early 80's, most carpets were furry. Then the trend went to smooth clean carpets. Some of the older models still have the furry carpets, although they may be starting to thin and the colors are leaning more toward grey now. Trends come and go.
mr moto Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Thanks guys! Some good suggestions there. It sounds like I need to go hunting around in craft and fabric stores and see what some of these items look like in person. Thanks again!
