bobss396 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Engine assembly,at least partial. I have to wire up the starter, I have no access once the headers are on. 1
bobss396 Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 The printed engine was a bad fit and I didn't want to start cutting up the chassis. I'll post more, but I have gone back to the kit engine... I made the crappy kit headers work. The next one... if I ever do one again... will be using .062" solder for headers. I have 2 of these cars in work, since they are very similar. The other is a Southern Stocker Buick.
bobss396 Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Back on it... I did an engine/radiator fit check... no Bueno. I was resolved to remove the existing front cage hoop and extended the chassis 3/8". The engine is wired up, headers are a good fit. 2
bobss396 Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Ok. The front cage is done. I used 3/32" tubing to make things simple. I had to leave some structure in place since it locates the spindles and front shocks. I had a nifty brake master/clutch master plate made up. I will have to make it over. I used the 2 part method to create bars with compound-angle end pieces. Get the hard part done, attach them in the middle. 1
Mattilacken Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Nice progress! Nice to se a take on the kit chassis. I have also goten some work done to mine poster it in my thread under cars WIP. Third gen Chevelles and a Cutlas its called if interested.

I could have went with a donor chassis, but hate dividing up complete kits. I have a lot of these Southern Stocker based kits, some for parts I got on the cheap. I have some sealed ones, the whole series 1
bobss396 Posted March 20 Author Posted March 20 Figured I'd go back to the Laguna since it wasn't fighting with me top much. I got the upper chassis/roll cage done. Some rudimentary seat belts. I have to touch up the rear in a few spots before it goes in. Engine needs the carb plumbed and put on. I know the headers are going to be a tight fit into the chassis. 3
Mattilacken Posted March 21 Posted March 21 nice progress there! Engine came out good, i have been looking at it many times and just put it back. nice to see it beeing built OOB.

I also have a Buick Regal going that went BACK IN THE BOX!! after I ran into some issues. The kit cage went together well enough. I pinned it here and there, added some short bars to support the top hoop. The cage front of the firewall is an abomination. I had to use part of the kit so the dual shocks could be retained. On my next one, I will probably 100% scratch build the shocks. The dashboard is garbage and hard to figure out... so I made my own.

I get that it went back. For me this chassi have been going back the box many times so many awkward things in my opinion so I don’t get interested enough to take my time to correct it. well keep at it! 1

But thanks to Model King... they are in loads of kits. The leaf springs are simply wrong, really should be coils and best of all, a rear with trailing arms.
