I am new to modelling so I don't know much about the companies that sell kits or where to buy them. I am looking for a kit just as a hobby so I want to find one that will keep me busy for awhile. Thinking back to when I was a kid building these kits, it never took more than an hour or two to snap all the pieces together. Does anyone know of any kits, particularly of automobiles, that are more detailed or difficult to assemble. I realize that you can make any kit as detailed as you the builder desires but I am not looking to make a masterpiece, just something to keep me busy for awhile.

Well, that's a really wiiiiiiiiiide-open question! Yes, there are HUNDREDS of well detailed kits out there... but what are you looking for? Stock? Drag? Hot rod or custom? Classic? Road racing? Truck?

The best way to start is by spending some time at a well-stocked hobby shop, browsing around and asking questions. If you don't have a well-stocked hobby shop nearby, get online and check out all the different manufacturer sites, and all the online hobby shops. If you don't know any online hobby shops, here a few to get you started:

I would add to Harry's list The Modelroundup (www.modelroundup.com) as they have new and old kits alike. There are other sites that cater to older, out of production kits and you can also scroll down the forum here to the "wanted" section and list your desires.

Welcome back to the hobby, enjoy this website, learn and share!

Thanks guys for including a list of some reputable websites where I could begin looking.

To add to my original post, I am looking more for either classic muscle cars or newer exotic cars (Lambourghini, Ferrari, etc.).

If anyone knows where I could find a good Aston Martin model kit that would be awesome. Probably one of my favorite auto makers, I especially like the DB9, Vantage, and Vanquish.

For kits of exotic sport cars you may have to delve into the Japanese market, but they do make excellent models for the most part. There are a couple Japan based internet shops that are set up to handle business from America and might have a larger selection that a US dealer.
