Lowridingmike Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 And re based back to square one. I won’t touch that pearl mix with a 10 ft pole after this setback so I’ll re add the dark blue stripes and build off that from this point forward
Lowridingmike Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 Waaayyy better now… Now we can proceed to the next panels. Back to having fun🤪 2
Lowridingmike Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 As many cars as I’ve painted both in scale and in 1:1 I’ve NEVER had a car fight so hard to not come out right?!? Is it because the materials I’m using is anywhere from 10-15 years old? The tape I’m using is new from an automotive supplier which is different from my usual blue 3m tape I’ve used previously? I put down another panel and even it came out almost like water immediately bleeding through and making a hot mess! At this point I’m over it, it’ll get sanded down one last time go back in original purple base and get some ultraviolet pearl ghost stripes. This car is screaming to me “Please don’t put those gaudy designs on me!!l 😤🤯
Lowridingmike Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 So I sanded it back down for the second time today, when I unmasked the bottom the tape fogged up the purple like it did the chameleon pearl earlier so sanded the whole car re primed and re based the whole thing.
Lowridingmike Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 Also the corner of the hood with the hinge pin folded over from being handled so much, I used the usual insta-zap ca glue and instakicker to mend it and it’s like the kicker tried to eat the hood. Made it soft, had to use putty and sand to fix it up right. At this point I’m afraid of the glue, the tape, and the paint. Smdh at least it’s all back clean in one color again. 1
Lowridingmike Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 It’s super hard to photograph without clear but I wouldn’t be twotone if it wasn’t at least two colors so hit it with the “Lowridingmike Fade” it’s faded to black from the belt line down. Looks great in person can’t wait to put on the factory revell racing stripes, decals, bmf, then final clear!😁 3
Lowridingmike Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 Speaking of bare metal foil I remember I have a few sheets from over ten years ago and a few sheets from like 6 years ago when they first started going to boo boo. I wonder if any of its good by now?😳

I wonder if any of its good by now?😳 I just used it for the first time. After reading up on that situation, I took the advice repeated multiple times here, and ordered directly from bare metal. It degrades with age, and getting from the source is the best bet you don't pick up the old, "bad" stuff. I had no problems with it. Edited February 14 by johnyrotten Spelling 1
Lowridingmike Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 (edited) Ok time to do other stuff and we got a snow day so let’s do it! Wasn’t feeling the stock rallys so looking for something more nostalgic hot rod ish I found these staggered five lug wheels that fit the stock tires in a random part box. White letter decals are a must. Edited February 19 by Lowridingmike
Lowridingmike Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 Of course the tires were all slick and plastic looking so sanded em a little looking better already
Lowridingmike Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 A little trick i used to do is take dc motor field windings off an armature and make brake lines and throttle return springs and such 1
Lowridingmike Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 First and foremost sorry for picture quality it’s sooooo hard to capture this so small up close. But I wrap the wire around another thicker wire to gain the coil paint it the color it needs and it’s all good 2
Lowridingmike Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 Front suspension put together and in color 1
Lowridingmike Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 The picture quality leaves a lot to be desired I apologize, it’s really late here so don’t wanna disturb kids and wife with much light. Also you can tell this is a rush job as details like paint mixture isn’t satisfactory either. The aluminum and steel were mixed where you can barely tell them apart so contrast all but existing. However with the alternator wires, starter wires, battery cables, plug wires, fuel lines, fuel filter, and breather in place against flat black firewall, fenderwells, and undercarriage I believe it’ll be more convincing. Also the detail decals should break up some of the toy like mediocrity as well. 2

It sure seems to be fighting you…particularly frustrating when it’s supposed to be a slump buster build..🥴 It’s looking good now!👍

Be glad when it’s done, got a lot of way more interesting and better detailed projects that need completed coming next

Looking forward to seeing what's next, and nice tip about the motor windings. Miles of wire on those.
Lowridingmike Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 In proper fashion of this build photo etch connectors will take forever to come so I just slapped some plug wires battery cables and an alternator wire on there got fuel line, fuel filter, and decals to put in before it can get dropped in 2

Lowridingmike Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 Motor got dropped in decals and such put on it was a pain making sure everything cleared and sat right I purposely had to offset the battery you’ll see why later lol 3
Lowridingmike Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 On the 1:1 the core support is tapered on the outsides so the battery doesn’t quite sit flush to it
