jdcar32 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Hello, a few years ago I sent Tom Coolidge a partially finished 1958 Pontiac sedan as a gift, one of his resin kits. Wondering if it ever turned up anywhere, and also wondering what became of Tom. He was ( is? ) a credit to the hobby. Thank you. Jon
krassandbernie Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Tom was an excellent resin caster. I was just telling someone about him this evening in a conversation regarding resin casters from 20+ years go. I have not kept up with him over the years........the same goes for Shawn Carpenter. Shawn didn't have a large catalog but his resin conversions were very high quality. I always thought both of these guys put out a product as good (even nicer quite frankly) than the average stuff Modelhaus churned out..........having ordered from all three back in the day. 1
peteski Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Back in the day I have bought few resin kits from him and also exchanged several pleasant emails. He is a super nice and highly skilled guy. He also send me bunch of free goodies from his collection of detail parts. Not sure what is his current status. I hope he is alive and well. 1 1
Ragtop Man Posted March 17 Posted March 17 IIRC, Tom had a health issue that prompted him to drop the business. That was a flat shame that he needed to bow out, his stuff was tight, clean and crisp. I have a few items (donated a mint '61 Olds sedan to him) that he cast and they are uniformly outstanding resin items. He set a high bar for being professional, courteous and accessible to the hobby. 1
Mark C. Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I’ll echo that sentiment. I bought some of Tom’s resin items back in the day, and communicated with him a bit. Though I never met him in person, he always seemed like a top notch guy, and his work was outstanding. He even sent some freebies with some of the orders, like spare Johan Cadillac roofs for my ‘59/‘60 sedan projects, etc. I regret that I didn’t get more of his products (like ‘59 Oldses), but regret even more hearing that he had to endure health issues. I wish him the best.
Ron Hamilton Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Tom Coolidge was one of the best resin casters. His products were eclectic, but excellent. I have several of them, and I am a very happy customer.
