FujimiLover Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) Thank's to Mr. Mike I got my hands on one of my favorite kit's, the Koenig Specials Porsche 928S4 from Fujimi! This will be painted Tamiya TS-42 Light Gun Metal ontop of white primer. Simple black interior with silver "aluminum" trim. Box art is very cool! Instructions, simple Begining of body work/prep. Parts Very wide wheel's. Look at the size of these meat's! Rear tire Front tire Edited April 29, 2009 by FujimiLover
Nick F40 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Yes! Man I haven't seen one of these in a while. This is awsome!
FujimiLover Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Yes I know, this is one of their very rare kit's and I'm very fortunet to land one. That's why I'm going to be VERY carefull building this one as well as going for simplicity. This 928 is the hardest one to find of all of Fujimi's KS model's. The Mercedes 500 Sl I beleive is second hardest, 911 third, and so on. If my first two KS models are anything to go by, this one should certainly be a jem!
B_rad88 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 what about that countash? how hard is that one to find?
FujimiLover Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) The Countach and the Competition are the two easiest ones to find. I see two of each on ebay almost every week, and both my local hobby stores has the Competition almost all the time. I would say that this would be the following order of rarity. "Word?" 1 being most rare, 6 being easiest to find. 1) KS 928 2) KS 500 SL 3) KS 911 4) KS Countach 5) Competition Spyder 6) Competition Toss up between 5 and 6. Of coarse, right now there are half a dozen 500 SL's on ebay at the moment! Edited April 30, 2009 by FujimiLover
FujimiLover Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 Should I build this with the headlights up or down? I've always been fascinated with the way the 928's headlights operate. Probably one of the coolest headlights and coolest feature of the car itselfe!
Zoom Zoom Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 While those headlights might be fascinating to see operate, I think they look pretty goofy raised up. I would never build any model w/retractable headlights fixed in the open position. The only way they'd be up is if they also go back down. Some models do have that option.
FujimiLover Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 It would be cool to have the headlights motorized and light up as they pop-up. But this model does not allow for that option. It's either up or down. I'm going for the down position. Still, the 928 does have the most interesting of pop-up's.
B_rad88 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 the model of the countash you have? with everything that opens! wow i thought that would be harder to find! what scale is the countash? ok next question which car of what scale is the rareset? (i taking it you was talking 1/24 before)
B_rad88 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 and my opinion is build it with them down! zoom zoom is right they will look goofy up!
FujimiLover Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) the model of the countash you have? with everything that opens! wow i thought that would be harder to find! what scale is the countash? ok next question which car of what scale is the rareset? (i taking it you was talking 1/24 before) The Countach is rare, but not as rare as the 928. I'm not sure about other scales as I'm only familiar with 1/24. Actually, there are two 1/16 scale Koenig Specials Countach models on ebay right now, so rare, but not 928 rare. Now, let's get back to the regularly schedualed program shall we? B_rad88 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 what kinda of rims are on the ks 928? and if you get another one will you do any cuztom work to it?
RodneyBad Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 That's gonna be one nice looking Porsche. Lights down. Other wise you loose the Lovely Flow of the body lines. it would look bug eyed
FujimiLover Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) what kinda of rims are on the ks 928? and if you get another one will you do any cuztom work to it? The rim's on the 928 and 911 are both BBS, but the 928's are much wider. I don't think I'll be able to get another KS 928 kit and I can't think of any mod's I'd want to do it. However, if I get a stock 928, I might like to do the Strosek 928! Actually, the color of this Porsche look's very similar I think to the color I had pictured for the KS 928! B_rad88 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 that looks sweet! can't wait to see the ks928 finished!
FujimiLover Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 Just primed the chassis and interior. According to the instructions, it seems they want the chassis to be color cordinated with the body.
FujimiLover Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) Tip: DON'T WASH SMALL PARTS OVER AN OPEN DRAIN PIPE! I JUST LOST THE KS PASSANGER SIDE MIRROR! Fortunetly, it was only the passanger side mirror and not the driver's side mirror as the car only needs the drivers side mirror. Still, it sucks to loose a part on such a rare kit. And, it's a part specific to this KS model, not just a 928 part! $*(&$&(@! I even took apart the pipes under the sink to look for it and I'm afraid it went way far deep into the pipe system beyond my reach. So, don't wash small parts over an open drain pipe. Use your kitchen sink that has a drain plug instead! I still have both of the stock mirrors, but they wouldn't look right on the KS model. So, it's just going to have one drivers side aerodynamic mirror. Edited April 30, 2009 by FujimiLover
FujimiLover Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 Last night I did some painting on the chassis. I forgot that this kit has no steering? What? No steering? Wonder why Fujimi didn't make this car steerable? At least it keep's it simple! Painted the interior flat black, it will be two-toned with German Gray which is a nice medium-dark gray. Decided to paint the wheels gold. Probably can't tell, but I primered the body, rear wing, and mirror.
FujimiLover Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 (edited) Some more work done this morning. Some more chassis detailing. Picture doesn't show it, but the exaust pipes are painted flat aluminum, and the engine is painted silver. You can see the subtle difference between the flat black and the German Gray. dashboard instrument panel. Body painted. The color is darker in person I think. I love Tamiya paints, they are very forgiving! Edited May 1, 2009 by FujimiLover
FujimiLover Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 Thank you very much! For a while I wasn't sure if anybody was watching. This being a very simple kit, it should be a fast build with of coarse waiting for paint to dry! Either later this evening or tomarrow I'll flip the body over and paint the bottom. Still gotta paint the rear wing. I should be done with the chassis later today and interior probably tomarrow. I suspect car will be complete Monday-Tuesday. Then it'll be time for 911!
FujimiLover Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 (edited) Very nice. Someday i have that kit too. You already have the kit, or you want to find the kit? Good luck finding one, their rare! I was lucky I had one here who was willing to sell his! Chassis finished! Next step, interior! One interesting thing about this model, is the decal's for the instrument panel. As you can tell from the molded cluster here, you can almost see the individual ring's where individual decal's go. Some reason on this kit, instead of having one nice large instrument cluster decal, they gave you seperate dial's which will be a challange to do just right! Don't remind me about the exaust tips, they go on after the body is mounted! Edited May 1, 2009 by FujimiLover
FujimiLover Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 Interior almost done! Instrument panel done, man were those decal's a pain! Bottom of body painted!
