Did I see a mini drill press in one of the previous photos of your bench?  Otherwise, pretty handy with a pin vise drill!  Looks good.

Yes sir, that is a very small drill press on my bench, didn’t know if I would use it much, but it has been a good add, use it a lot.

Wow, I had trouble finding TS-50 Mica Blue for my trailer, visited several web sites but no good, went on eBay and bought from 3 different companies to get 5 spray cans. Also been looking for the Revell Peterbilt 357 with the opening doors, found one for 140.00 bucks on eBay (kinda pricey), seems they are tuff to get right now. Seems many things are tough to get these days. Times sure are changing.

Some progress, replacement fuel tank is fabbed up and painted, readyfor chrome. Trailer tires/wheels arrived today and the air brakes are here. Got to give a couple joints some love then continue building main frame of trailer.

Lots of crossmembers to be fabricated, but had to do a quick mock-up to make sure trailer can pivot behind truck without hitting fenders on truck.

got to figure out crank up jacks, pictures shows these trailers being dropped on wooden blocks, not sure I like that. Thought about single large Jack in the center.

Wooden blocks is how we used to drop our low bed, there were no dolly wheels or pads, it was the only way we would be able to pick it up again, of course until we got our drop neck bed, then that is a different story....

I am not very familiar with this style of trailer and thought the wooden blocks where nonsense, but as you say, they just drop these trailers on wooden blocks. Who knew.

The deal with the blocks is that it keeps the king pin on the goose neck high enough to slide the tractor under it. If not on blocks ….. well, You know. Our tractor didn’t have air bags back then so for our application the blocks were critical. I think today with air bags the operation may be somewhat different…. Especially with the detachable goose neck trailers.

Looking really sturdy, Gary - will be a perfect add to your truck!  In one of your earlier builds, you showed some schematics for a trailer.  Did you find any similar drawings for this trailer, to help with the design?

I did not find any online prints for this build. So I am kinda using what knowledge I have and refereeing to pictures. This low trailer does allow for a sturdy frame beam underneath because of the ground clearance. The last frame I did was a drop deck that gave me more space under the trailer for a taller frame.

Wow Gary,

Another incredible build on this forum. I’ve had to take a few days off my build so I figured, given I’m such a newby to this genre of modelling, I could use some inspiration and I could learn a thing or two at the same time by reading some of the build threads here. Boy am I impressed with the quality of workmanship! Your truck and trailer are a perfect example. I just love what you’re doing and your scratch build work on the trailer frame is pure awesomeness. I also like to see what folks have on their benches for tools. I love tools. Good quality tools make such a big difference.

I’m looking’ forward to seeing more of this project.

Cheers,
Wolf

Big compliment Wolf thank you, I have thru the grape vine heard that you are a really good builder. I have a lot of homemade tools I use, scratch building is by far my favorite. You are welcome to message me and we can talk tools, tips and tricks anytime.

Need to build a few more crossmembers and do doom finish work. Got the deck plates made for front and back (they will be chrome diamond plate to match truck). Trailer will receive the same blue paint. The load is an injection molding machine kit I built several years ago but did nothing with. Chrome wheelset came Friday. Lot more work on trailer yet.

It’s always a treat to see the loads you have for your trailers - takes the whole model build to another level of realism!

Thanks Brian, I like the build to tell a story. The rest of the pallet/container snaps over the molding machine.
