carl63_99 Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Onward to a more simple project. Already started working on some of the details a year ago, mainly opening vents to utilize the photo etched grills. I also noted that builders complained about the door alignment. Checking that out, I figured out the back of the door was a tad long. A few minutes of sanding and that was fixed. I also opened all the vents on the bottom, makes it look better. The doors have only options to mount closed or partially open. I'm going to probably have the driver side door open and passenger side closed. Not sure yet, time will tell. Color, going for pearl orange, like a couple others you see in the pics. However, gonna add a touch of yellow and just a hint of pearl white powder to make it really pop. I'm a few days away from painting, so still thinking about that. 7
beeRS Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Nice start, and sure to be a great addition to your Lamborghini collection. Did the PE grilles come with the kit, or are they from an aftermarket company?
dino246gt Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I cut that opening panel apart, I don't think those side wings are supposed to be a part of it. 1

You can build it with the full plastic pieces (grey parts in the one pic) or cut the backing out and go photo etch. My choice is the PE, looks a lot cooler. 1

The wings are the tops to the air inlet and open when more cooling is needed. I've been looking at this and will follow your lead on it. 1
carl63_99 Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Working on the door handles. Man, this is a candidate for a separate piece! Ground away with Dremel for a while, then used my X acto with a new blade to cut it smooth. Still needs a little sanding, but much better than original. 4
dino246gt Posted April 10 Posted April 10 The overly simplified engine bay can be cut open to look a lot better, quite easily. 4
carl63_99 Posted April 10 Author Posted April 10 Working on fixing sink marks. Love having a complete set of sanding sticks. Work out any area quickly and smoothly. 1
carl63_99 Posted April 11 Author Posted April 11 Engine bay is finished. I used gloss black, flat black, metallic black, graphite metallic, silver, flat aluminum, and Moltow chrome to detail it. 3
beeRS Posted April 15 Posted April 15 The interior door handles and engine detail are much improved. A lot of work, but it’s paid off nicely. 1
carl63_99 Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 I've been working on the brakes and wheels the last few days. I went with champagne gold from the Cord project for color. Whenever I do small details like badges and such, I put a drop of clear glue on them. I think it adds dimension to things like that. Thus, having just put glue on the wheels, it looks a bit milky white. Also, after fighting with the front brake assembly after taking off the sprue, I did the rears ON and it went much nicer. 1
carl63_99 Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 Paint test time! Exterior is going to be a bright sparkly orange color. I know, I already have a Countach and Diablo in orange, but I really like the color on Lamborghinis. Moving on, attached is a paint test I conducted. I have learned that mixing light and dark colors, ALWAYS start from the light color and add dark. 1) Pearl orange with additional white pearl. Rejected for being too red. 2) Pearl orange with just a touch of turn signal amber and white pearl. Still too red 3) Original Boyd pearl orange. (Countach and Diablo were done with this over grey primer.) 4) Turn signal amber with pearl orange. Just about where I want to be. 5) Number 4 with the white pearl powder added. Looks too milky white. 6) Turn signal amber, straight from the bottle.
carl63_99 Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 BTW, California Street Vette in my profile is Boyd pearl orange. 4
carl63_99 Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 Oh what a nice sunny afternoon in Austin, TX! I painted the color on my Aventador a little while ago, and before sticking it in the food dryer, I stepped out on the patio to take a couple pics. Attached are the results. I did decided to add just a pinch of white pearl, proportionally a lot less than my test the other day. I am glad I did. It just makes it sparkle a little more. I will let this sit for a week after an overnight run in the dryer, then a coat of clear, another week, then polishing. Interior cream color is drying and in a couple days I'll feel comfy masking and doing the Royal Blue. 5
dino246gt Posted April 21 Posted April 21 (edited) Great colour choice! My friend painted his 1/8th with actual Lamborghini paint, yours looks right! They do have several shades of Arancio (orange) Edited April 21 by dino246gt 2
carl63_99 Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 Had some fun making video, shows the shine of the paint better than a pic. Enjoy! 20250420_221440.mp4
carl63_99 Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 First a bit of failure, then the fix. I wanted to use flat blue to simulate the alcantara, but it did not go on well. So, I switched to metallic gloss and it came out better. Not exactly what I want, but it'll still look cool and break out of the 'safe' color choice routine I've been in.
carl63_99 Posted April 26 Author Posted April 26 Interior is mostly complete. I need to do the roof/windshield insert. A trick I've used forever is to fill in instruments with white glue, my preferred is the Testors brand. After it dries it makes any instrument look like it's behind glass. Check the gauge on this dash. The center console glue is still drying. 1
carl63_99 Posted Wednesday at 12:53 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 12:53 AM Details, details, details. Been working on business so the bench has been quiet. But, I did get some work done today. Wiper arms, added seat belt straps, work on the taillights (Who does solid color taillights these days?!?! Come on Fujimi!) and even added a little air freshener so she smells nice after sitting for a few days.
dino246gt Posted Wednesday at 01:34 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:34 PM The tail lights almost made me give up on my own build of that kit! This is a REAL one: 1
carl63_99 Posted Wednesday at 10:30 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 10:30 PM Final Assembly had begun! Not sure if I will get it all together tonight, but everything is coming together. The photoetch grills were nail-biters. Trying to get enough super glue on to hold but not fill in the grill openings has always been the challenge. But they look so effin nice when installed. I opted to not paint them as it gives a little more to look at. I think this will be my final WIP post. In a few days she jumps over to Under Glass. I'm thinking the name should be "The Great Pumpkin". 3
carl63_99 Posted Wednesday at 10:32 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 10:32 PM Oh yea, note the third brake light. Drawn with a Molotow chrome pen followed by Tamiya clear red. 1
SpikeSchumacher Posted Wednesday at 10:39 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:39 PM That looks stunning, Carl! 1
