David Thibodeau Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 This will be a dual WIP thread showing off a few significant Sunoco Liveries from the past with a 30 year spread between the two cars.. First up: The awesome 1966 Penske/Sunoco L-88 Corvette. Some real eye candy...... You just gotta love that Sunoco Blue and yellow combo no matter what its on, but a factory built L-88 427 fire breathing C2 Stingray makes it even better!!!! I am using the Revell kit and building it with mild engine detail and a few interior corrections to make it more accurate and adding photoetch to both areas as well. Here is the body as per usual. Scalefinishes Sunoco Blue and yellow are in process with Dupont 2 part Chroma clear 7500S A little polishing and this baby will be flawless! Its 30 year younger brother will be the Ron Fellows driven 1996 Trans AM Camaro. For the life of me I cannot find any real photos of this car which is shocking. If any of you have any float them my way! The inaccurate diecast from GMP. ( I will put this thing to shame hopefully!) Notice in this picture the yellow looks like old school sunoco yellow like on the vette? Well that just will not do!!! > The paint of choice on this one is again, Scalefinishes Sunoco Blue but for the yellow I went with Valspar Chartreuse. A Blindingly Glow in the dark (not really) Neon Yellow! This will match the decals perfectly and look awesome with the red neon bits on the sheet. Dont worry I will be doubling up the decals too!! Body has been tapped off, painted and cleared with the usual Dupont 7500S. I will add decals and coat them with Micro scale Gloss. The real car I am sure was decal and not cleared but who knows.. Does it hurt your eyes? More to come on these soon! DaveT
ffreak Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Looking good there David. I built this T/A car in the past and used MCW colors, and the yellow on it was a dayglo flouresent yellow and looks great. For what it's worth in case anyone wanted to go that route. I also had Ron sign the roof very carefully when I met him at Road Atlanta. He was very pleased with the build and handed it to each one of the Vette drivers to look at. That was a cool moment for me. I now have that prize in a nice case and enjoy the memory. Yours is looking great, stay after it. Danny
Foxer Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Looks good, David, and perfect timing! I have a fictional dirt modified in the works representing a Sunoco station my Dad worked at. Been wondering what to use for colors and my question is now answered. )) Were those aftermarket decals you show? I'm planning to make my own, but a decal sheet I can pirate some off of would be welcome.
David Thibodeau Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 Thanks guys... After some polishing, I just could not resist a few decals.... look at that thing!!!!
RJWood Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Excelent paint and decal work. How is the Corvette comming along? I always enjoy seeing your builds. Can't wait for more on these.

Nick F40 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 My interenet has been down for a little so yeah surprising i'm not one of the first to post but yeah, these are one of my favorites, love the Vette but love that Trans Am Camaro a tad bit more! Heck, I wish my polished bodies turn out as good as yours BEFORE you polished them.
