RyanSilva Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) Using Revells 1969 nova. Glued down the blocks for the rear leafs to get the "rake". Il use the traction bars also. It's built like.. a high schoolers car in the 80s I modified the rally wheels from the 72 nova from AMT. I sanded the huge dish in front of the wheels, stock wheels are not like that Shooting for the faded paint rather than hard chips, warm dry climate stuff. Airbrushed with acrylics, thinned with alcohol. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Edited May 13, 2009 by RyanSilva
RyanSilva Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 Added the green, Looks a little bright, but I will tone it down with some sun burn fades, I did what you did V on the dash, Il paint the pad black also, with some white underneith for a subtle sun burn fade. It isnt as bright in person. Got part of the chassis done, Used Burnt sienna over the black, then red oxide, followed by black again to get the shadows back. I did this at low pressure, so it speckled all over. Kinda like the "spider webbing" with lacquer
RyanSilva Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Hmmm Ok then. Using a stiff piece of foam, I dry brushed some umber and sienna's along the fender and rockers for some character. Used some wrought Iron paint as burnout rubber on the rear quarters. Got alot of touch ups to do when it comes time to mounting the body permanently. It is a very tight squeeze getting the chassis on the body.
RodneyBad Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 How Rustic Ole Grimmie Engine with Chrome valve covers and aircleaner. and 1 chrome exhaust tip. Well, atleast it's straight. Nice weathering and fading.
diymirage Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 ah yes this should be a car like bumblebee in the new transformers movie rusted up piece of poopoo on the outside and nothing but bilng under the hood also, i like it how it looks like the racing stripes are painted on with a roller
locoengr Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Looks like many a ride that a might have had a ride in. Funny though how dependable some of these cars were, -20* and they would always start. Plus alot of them were "fill 'em with oil and check the gas." Never had to worry about weather/hail, door dings from idiots in parking lots. Left the keys in it, some didn't even need a key, as no one would steal it. But, I'm rambling....Great job on this one!! Bruce in Fargo
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 What's goin' on... Ahhhhh Yes...Those were the days!!! Back when a fairly solid Camaro,Nova,Duster,or even a Cutlass could be bought for under $800.00. Several trips to Nationwise Auto parts for the cheap chrome engine dress up kits,a pair of Mr.Gasket Blackjack headers and Thrush header mount glass packs. Don't forget the bondo and all the black rattle can primer you could carry or afford!!! If you were lucky you had a set of Crager S/S rims 15x10s or the slots on the rear and air shocks that always seemed to bleed off no matter how many times ya replaced the plumbing. When they did ya always cringed when the fender rubbed on bumps. Let's not forget the stock rally rims up front and ya held back from power braking because you couldn't afford to replace those Mickey's! You should paint those slots w/ aluminum metallizer polished or the alclad. Those being polished was always on the priority list. Do that and you'll be ready to drive w/ your buds downtown to the local parking lot on Friday/Saturday night. Go to that drive thru where that one guy that works there never cards ya for 12 pack or Busch beer (Budwieser was too expensive) and crank up 38 Special AC/DC or Iron Maiden. Tell lies to the chicks w/ the hopes you might get laid (if you were lucky) and bragg about what you're doing to the old fart can w/ the air shocks! Then later on go instigate the cops for a game of catch me if ya can. Remember back then if they got ya pulled over you just got a speeding ticket and a lecture about the hazzards of drivng fast!!! Keep up the good work on this one!!!
RyanSilva Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 Thanks guys! I'm modeling it as the old high school car as it sits now...not how it was driven to school its just a theme..nothing Im real serious about modeling Here is the chassis.. almost complete, just gotta exstend the shocks..and sand the tires, and paint my rally wheel backing plate. Sprayed it black..again, but added some texture. little bit of baking soda and table salt, I made a mixture a few years ago..just found it earlier..woohoo. Sprayed on some Tan..
RyanSilva Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Then I sprayed on some rusty red oxide, followed by black again. One of the last things to do is the gas tank. Edited May 15, 2009 by RyanSilva
Guest JamesDE Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 WOOOHOOO!! I am diggin this one bro!!! That looks awesome man!
James W Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Your paint is looking great as ever. I like the front wheels, they would have been cheap and available. Don't forget the speaker hole in the back package tray!
Edward Gore Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 This is looking very neat, I mean beat, you know what I mean.
FujimiLover Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Look's awesome for something that's not nice looking, if you know what I mean! I try and build show-room looking models, and I find it very difficult to try and make something look old and rusted. Of coarse, my subjects you dont' want to look that way anyhow! I'm always impressed with how realistic people like you can take a model kit and make it look like a rust bucket on PURPOSE! Very amazing skills to do that if you ask me. Look's like it belong's to "Fast Times at Ridgmeond High." for some reason!
