HomerS Posted June 29 Posted June 29 After baseball, Dave Parker retired back in the Cincinnati area. My parents were in the parking lot of a local IGA grocery store and my dad spotted a spotless 50's era Mercedes. Dad's testosterone took over and he lost focus on the mission and went over to speak to the driver of the car. The tall gentleman was very accommodating to my Dad showing him the car as my mom patiently waited in the parking lot. As he finally refocused, he walked back to join my Mom to get back to why they were there, my Mom turned to him and said "you know that was Dave Parker?" Dad was NOT a fan of any sports so they first question out of his mouth was "who is that?" Dave gave more than he took from his hometown. He brought the Popeye's chicken restaurants to Cincinnati which employee hundreds. Met him at several events and always a very pleasant person. 2
Mike 1017 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I attended a 4th of July game between the Cubs and Pirates. Someone threw a M-80 right behind Dave. He did not flinch or even look back to see who threw it. That was most extreme example of concentration that I had ever seen to this day. I became a big fan of Dave Parker after that. R.I.P Dave Mike
