MrTEL Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Hi all Does anyone know what sort of insulated wire Tamiya use for distributor leads etc? I need to add more detail on this model and I won't have enough spare. I tried stripping out the core of an old SCSI cable but it's too thick. If anyone knows a supplier that would be great.
Lyle Willits Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Go to any hardware store, home builders store, electronic supply store, etc. and buy whatever size wire you want.

I've not seen anything that fine in the shops round here, including Maplins. I was going to try and find some online but I wouldn't know what type to order. That's why I asked the question!

MrTEL Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Thanks awfully but I haven't got a micrometer. Let's try this another way, what does everyone else on this site use for a distributor or battery lead when they're working at 1/12 scale?
mr moto Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 My best source for engine detailing items is the jewelry section of Hobby Lobby. Tryy there or at similar craft stores like Michael's or whatever is in your area. I've also bought some fine wire at Radio Shack in the past.

I get all my wire from Michaels/Value Craft/Radio Shack. The craft or beading section has a lot of wires. I use 22, 24, and 26 gages. I try to get solid core and not braided because I holds a bend better and the internal wire has a lot of uses and brake/fuel lines etc.
MrTEL Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 Bead stringing wire – That's the answer!! Just went to the department store in town and bought some. Comes in colours too. Thanks. You lot didn't want to let that secret out did you?
