iBorg Posted Sunday at 11:35 PM Posted Sunday at 11:35 PM I'm working on restoring an old MPC Cosma Ray (Round2 please reissue!). It would make sense to rob the MPC Vette for parts but the Revell 1967 is a lot more common to get. Does anyone know how close these two 1967's are in size? Can the frames be swapped fairly easily? The MPC is one of their best kits of the era. How does it compare to the more modern Revell tooling? Thanks!
stavanzer Posted yesterday at 12:36 AM Posted yesterday at 12:36 AM (edited) Mike, I'd look for the Recent Round2/MPC Streaker Vette for the parts. I linked to the Nightstalker/Streaker Vette & Cosma Ray instructions so you can compare parts. Looks like the Chassis and Engine share many parts. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/mpc-instructions/1-sort/mpc-nightstalker-67/?view=roll https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/mpc-instructions/show-rods/mpc-cosma-ray-505-200/?view=roll#1 Edited yesterday at 12:37 AM by stavanzer
Exotics_Builder Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Well, I happen to have the following in the stash (unbuilt) so I could do a check out of what may or may not fit. What pieces are you specifically looking for? BTW, the MPC is in my To Sell stash 1
FoMoCo66 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I built the current round 2 re-issued version of the mpc. I would not count on parts swaping easily, the mpc kit is designed rather interestingly. It probably could be done and I'm not doubting your skills. 2
dino246gt Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I'd say the Revell is the much better kit. I used the Revell Corvette kit engine in my '64 Malibu: 1
Chris V Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago It entirely depends on how you want to (re-)build the car. If you’re looking to do a more or less box stock restoration, grab a copy of the fairly recent MPC “Streaker Vette” reissue. It even appears to be based on the same basic tooling as the original “Cosma Ray” kit. If you want to do a full detail build, the Revell ‘67 is your best donor, but be prepared to modify the parts to fit the build. 1
dino246gt Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago So, iBorg, I didn't really see that you want to restore one, so my comments should be neglected! The recent Streaker-Vette re-issue from Round 2-MPC is definitely your go-to for restoring that old Cosma-Ray kit!
