jeffinvt Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Take an AMT 53 ford flip nose(terrible kit), cut it to shreds and throw it in a bag with some 32 parts. Add a tube of glue, shake a while and... This is actually a rebuild of some thing I built a while back but was always unhappy with. Some may remember it, it was packing a V16 and was just all wrong in the way of proportion and flow. I think this is an improvement, and the blown nailhead fits way better. I agree with the Blown Buick!...But somethin still bugs me....I think you need to remove a little of the rear "Z"...in the profile the frame "sinks" down at the rear of the motor....and leaves a big gap under the bed...??????? Whatcha thinkin Jeff???
sdrodder Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 if i may make a suggestion, cut more of the body angle away. I think it would improve the overall look but just a thought. I like it so far i love those rims on it.
jeffinvt Posted May 27, 2009 Author Posted May 27, 2009 Jeeze Mike, give a guy a break . In those pics the frame was not connected to the rear end and the body/bed were just held on with loose tape. That has been taken care of and the frame is built and just needs beautification. Next step will be to remove some of the body rake, so it more closely lines up with the bed rails.
Chuck Most Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 FINALLY! A good use for a flip-nose Effie kit! This one's gonna be cool.
jeffinvt Posted May 29, 2009 Author Posted May 29, 2009 Completely changed the front end around today. I had gotten these Resin Quarter Elliptical springs and axel last year and never used them, so I thought it was time. I still will need to scratch up some split bones to finish it up. Also got some interior started and some minor changes to the rake and stance.
Chuck Most Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Ah, the quarter eliptic spring setup, few things look cooler on a rod! One minor thing- I'm not sure radius rods are necessary with such a setup, since the springs themselves locate the axle- at least I've never seen a quarter eliptic set up with radius rods. Are you going to run tube or early-Ford style friction shocks?

The springs job is to dampen the impact of bumps and other road irregularities. The radius rods job is to locate the axle and allow it move up and down through an arch while controlling caster at the same time.

Looks like I have at least two rod models in my stash with 1/4 eliptics that are gonna need some radius rods....

Chuck Most Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Glad you found out B4 you went out for a ride No... unfortunately, I had at least THREE of them before you guys set me straight. That third model...It was horrible- just horrible! Who knew the screams of 1/25 figures could be so heartrending?!

I don't call my fictitious rod shop "eyeball engineering" for nothing.
