Karl LaFong Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I've wanted to build the match racer version of the GTO for years, but the price for an intact kit is WAY beyond my pay grade. For several years I've been collecting the parts - this year I finally completed it. It started with a gluebomb 66 chassis and engine: I was able to score the competition parts off Ebay, and used a '67 Weekend Warrior for completion: The headers are from the AMT Pontiac engine parts pack, wheels and tires are from the partsbox. Paint is Testor's Hugger Orange, decals are a combination of Slixx gasser and Weekend Warrior: Hardest part was getting the bumpers to (almost) fit! 12
bondo bill Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Very nice build- I built an original as a kid, loved the box art. I would like to build another 1
ybsluos Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Right on Keith! You did a great job on your long anticipated project. -Mark
meechum68 Posted August 10 Posted August 10 That turned out great! Took a sow's ear and made it a silk purse! Well done!!!
magicmustang Posted August 10 Posted August 10 (edited) Outstanding. Did a similar project years ago from accumulated parts. Original box. Edited August 11 by magicmustang
Dragline Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Great bits make a great build. And you picked the right ones. Awesomeness.
stavanzer Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Wow! What a neat build. I've never seen this kit. Yours looks great. Good Show.
M W Elky Posted Tuesday at 11:57 AM Posted Tuesday at 11:57 AM You just didn’t see anyone build this version anymore what a fantastic job. Round 2 could get some extra mileage from this mold by restoring the funny car parts and using the original box art 1

Some of the marks on the chassis for match racer seat location, roll bar, etc. are still on the modern chassis. I do wonder if, on the original '66 & '67 issue, the front and reat bumper fit was so bad - on the new kits, it's almost if the body and bumpers are two different scales.
ford fan Posted yesterday at 09:04 AM Posted yesterday at 09:04 AM I didn't know this model. But you achieved a fantastic job !
