Evan_N Posted Saturday at 04:13 PM Posted Saturday at 04:13 PM Currently working on the Revell '76 Gran Torino. As a kid growing up in the 70's I have a real soft spot for cars from this time, especially typical daily rides that I would have seen in my neighbourhood back then. First car kit I've built in more than 40+ years, and it's going together nicely. I don't know if this is considered a "good" kit, but I'm really enjoying so far. I've got the engine and chassis built and just finishing up painting before installing them.I ended up mixing up some blue for the engine, as I couldn't really find anything at my hobbyshop. I know Testors makes (made?) a Ford engine blue, but they didn't have any stock. I tried to match it with pictures I got on line. I think I got pretty close. I left it a bit brighter, because I want to do some oil washes and weathering. 4
TopherMcGinnis Posted Saturday at 10:46 PM Posted Saturday at 10:46 PM Cool kit. They must've built a blue million Torinos. They was everywhere! The engine color looks great. What color are you painting the car? 1

I just need to figure out how I'm going to paint the vinyl. That interior blue looks a bit challenging... 1
Evan_N Posted Tuesday at 03:50 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 03:50 PM Made some more progress yesterday. The engine is painted and installed. I just need to pop in the rad hose, air cleaner, and do some spark plug wiring. Unfortunately a lot of the other "plumbing" is missing from the engine compartment. I'm not sure I want to tackle that on this build. I don't want to get bogged down now that I'm making pretty good progress. I used AK Streaking grime to get the dirt on the engine block, along with some pigments for the dust. I used a bit of rust enamel on the headers, but I think that they're a bit too silvery still. I might hit them with some brown to tone them down. 4
Evan_N Posted Tuesday at 04:02 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 04:02 PM Hey All, For the interior I'm going to with Apple Barrel 21484 Admiral Blue. I think this will give me a good base to start with. I'm also ready to spray the body colour. I'm going with Metallic Silver. To me the actual Ford colour looks to be more grey than bright silver. I found a substitute for 1G, Ford's Code, that looks right, but I'm not sure whether to go with a black primer, or a grey one? Any suggestions, or advice would be welcomed.
FoMoCo66 Posted Wednesday at 02:46 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:46 AM This thing is looking good, that engine color is almost spot on my friend. Also that weathering is amazing! 1
ksnow Posted Wednesday at 12:44 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:44 PM Excellent weathering on that engine. 1
DoctorLarry Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago For a silver top coat I would use grey primer. You will get better color coverage. 1
stavanzer Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I agree on the Grey Primer. Your engine detailing skills are great. 1
Evan_N Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouragement, and advice. Chassis is assembled, the seats and interior has been painted, and I intend to prime the body later on today. I'll post some more pictures this evening. 1
