hellonwheelz3 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I am in the finishing stages of a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. I have some spray on clear coat, but dont know how many coats of paint (black) I should apply. Any tips on how to finish it? I plan on airbrushing it btw. If it comes out good, i'll post some pics!
MrObsessive Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 You're a new member so welcome! That's a loaded question because you and only you can determine that since you're right on it. Whenever it looks sufficiently covered and smooth..............stop. How many coats will depend on your airbrushing style, consistency of paint relative to thinner, size of model..................too open a question......... You mentioned you have clear coat.......I've found in the past that solid colors really don't need clearcoating as there's enough hardener in solid colors to polish out and be just as nice. It's up to you, but I would simply rub out the paint and polish if I were doing a solid black paint job.
hellonwheelz3 Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 "...but I would simply rub out the paint and polish if I were doing a solid black paint job." im not sure what you mean about polishing and using thinner. I'm sorry, im VERY new to model building. I've started a few in the past but never have i gotten this far lol. i have some 600 grit sandpaper to sand down rough spots, but not sure how to apply thinner. Also what polish do i use when im done to make it shine? Thanks for all your help.
