jdcar32 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Hello modelers, I'm thinking about the 2nd gen ( '65 - '69 ) Corvair for the next build. I imagine the AMT kit's are all the same tool other than minor Tweeks . I've seen a '65 or '66 and a '69 kits for sale. Would appreciate input regarding kit features that vary, best re-releases, etc. I've read about the interior tubs issues. I would build it stock. Thanks !
TECHMAN Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) JON First, I am NOT an expert, but from what I've seen, the '69 model was the last kit that was produced, and from what I've seen, seem to be the most affordable..... I've built that kit, and really, wasn't all that bad of fitment..... Not really certain if any of the earlier releases had much in the way of accessory parts, but the greater amount of the "non-stock" parts were custom body parts in the kit I built...... Look forward to seeing your build. DJ Edited 17 hours ago by TECHMAN spelling
Misha Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago The second generation Corvair is dear to my heart as a three year old 1965 Corvair 2door Monza was my first vehicle at the age of fifteen. As a result I went through all the annual kits issued at the time. While the only changes to the body were emblem locations and the year imprint on the license plate location. Additionally most had the Sprint and Yenko Stinger body parts. Some issues offered an extended nose piece, somewhat like a funny car body. There are plenty of styling options common to most issues. If one were to choose a particular year to search for, the 1967 annual kit is a real gem in offering the turbo-charged engine that was still available from Chevy that year with the Corsa option. Sadly the 1969 annual, upon which all subsequent re-releases were based upon, lacks this option. Looking forward to your project! Cheers Misha
Mark Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The optional parts got switched around a bit in the first couple of annual kits. The "for 1968" annual kit is really a '67, with no 100% stock building version. Reissues from the last forty years or so all have undersize stock tires, and a mix of optional parts from the annual kits. All of them have a shallow interior bucket. Place the interior and chassis into the body, then look through the hole in the chassis where the end of the transaxle goes, and you can see that. But overall, they are pretty decent kits.
Volzfan59 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I’m thinking about getting a couple of Corvair kits. One to build stock and one to use the body for an old late model stock car. 1
